Hmmms, if you're a gamer then ideally you want a better graphics card than a HD5770 or a GTX460 - they're ok for current games at 1080p but the HD5770 is already beginning to flounder and it won't be long before the GTX460 starts to do the same.
I'd aim to spend £200 on the graphics card, as if you're a gamer it's more important than the cpu.
I recently spent £400 on:
Phenom II X4
Foxconn A7DA-S 3.0
4GB GeIL PC12800 C9
HD6870 (with games bundle).
I made back £50 of that by selling the games that came bundled. I've yet to find a game I can't max, and my favourite game (Mafia II) never drops beneath the fps cap I've set (60fps).
COD games never drop beneath 100fps, and srouce games (TF2 and CSS) I've maxxed and never drop beneath 120fps (with a cfg to make everything look super-pretty
