Hi,
I've got an antec 300 case, 320gb samsung F1 HDD, dvd rw drive, corsair H50 cooler.
not sure if i'm keeping the H50 but i'm keeping the rest.
Is it possible to do a good build with operating system for £700?
for gaming/web browsing/music and web design.

what games and a what resolution? £700 can get you a lot, you can also get a good enough system for less if you don't need all the power :)

If you decide to keep and use the HDD,case and DVD-RW then that could save 100 quid. And or what you want AM3 would be the best option.I suggested the HD4890 with 1 year warranty as I think that in a year you'll most likely change it with something better:D And for 60 quid more you could get a better case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-145-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

You can get away with a i7 build for that cash but not with the latest OS's.
If you can stretch it by 50-60 then say so.

You can pick a GC from £140 or less if your planning under £700 (id go for either 260/4890/5770)

the ram should be dual channel not tripple channel and 4gb not 6gb

will smash all games out of the park :)

I dont agree with this spec for one thing...

you specced him 2x 5770s for crossfire which is good...

but the mobo is not good. The second card would be at 4X limiting the crossfire...

Either get another board or get a single card... maybe 5850

Another boar would be my option...

2x PCIe 2.0 x16 Slots which i thought meant both would be running at x16 ? how do u know its limited to 4x , if this is the case then upgrade the board and go with my spec still.

Well iirc there is no P55 board that runs 16x/16x

The max you can run is 16x/8x

This can be done for example on the Gigabyte UD4 upwaards, MSi GD65 / GD80.

The max on the P55 chipset atm is x8/x8, unless you go for the MSI GD80 Tringery board which has the NF200 sli chip onboard that allows 3-way sli/crossfire at x16/x8/x8 :

" Now since typically the chipset/cpu combo only allows for x16 PCIe lanes, MSI added a NF200 bridge chip on the motherboard. The NF200 chip adds more PCI Express lanes to the motherboard so full 16x bandwidth can be supplied to the available PCI Express slots. This will add an additional 16 PCI-E lanes to the motherboard allowing you to go for SLI (2-way / 3-way) -- With 32 lanes, Trinergy is able to support for three-way SLI or CrossFire configuration at a per-lane performance of x16, x8, x8 "
