Hi.
Firstly what an excellent, informative and entertaining forum. Ive been lurking here for a while now and spending hours reading through the threads and learning a lot so thanks for that. This has lead to a severe urge for a new rig though as mine is rather out of date as you can see from my sig! About all i don't need is a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Im leaning towards intel i5/i7 and its mainly for gaming at the moment but im interested in trying mining as well so i guess that means an AMD gpu. Ideally the best i can afford now but with the option to add a second at a later date. I reckon i could spend about £1000- £1200 but need help from the experts as im a bit out of touch with the new hardware! Hope you can help and thanks in advance for any advice.

I'd say a 290(non x), bigger psu(for option of second 290 in future) and if budget allows a 4770k(bf4 and future games make use of the extra threads).

There is a free trial of Windows 8 you can rock for 3 months to make your mind up about it if you need an OS. This case doesn't allow an internal ODD hence the external one, if you have a decent sized USB memstick the OS can be installed via that.....

Gone over budget but there are two SSDs which can be put on display nicely inside the case, set them to RAID 0 to combine their storage and increase the speeds. Just spit balling ideas here, you have a respectabubble budget so you will see quite a few specs I should hope :)

Honosuseri, I was told today that the H105 won't fit in the NZXT H440 (after suggesting it like you have). It's too thick, apparently, at 38mm.

I don't know this for a fact, mind you, just repeating what I was told.

I just about managed to get it under budget with an awesome power supply for when you want to get another gpu for mining... but... you dont get an OS or a storage drive... but you have a 250gb SSD for games and what not :)

also, sorry about the case, i would possibly go corsair 330R, but i didnt want to go any further over budget...

The problem you will have with this spec is that apart from a super GPU, mining and gaming specs are complete polar opposites. E.G: Mining basically needs the weakest least energy consuming CPU available, a single 4GB stick of ram, the cheapest board that can accommodate the GPUs required, the lowest wattage gold PSU that can safely handle the components, and the slowest energy saving HDD going.

This.

I would use your current rig, together with however many Gpus you can afford and a decent Psu to power them, for mining.
What`s your current Psu and what drives do you have?

Thanks for the build specs will have a closer look when i get home from work.
I realise my new gaming build would not be the ideal miner but i thought i could have a go with it then move to a dedicated mining rig later if i wanted. The psu in my current rig is an antec earthwatts 500w so probably not much use for multi gpu. I did think i could reuse the mobo, hdd, one ram stick and underclock/volt the processor than just add a psu and 2 gpus to build a cheap mining rig. What are peoples thoughts on that?

That would make more sense, that way you would have a rig dedicated to mining as you say.

Yes thanks fella. I'm aware it's a thicker radiator which means some cases will struggle to take it in the roof. I was thinking about the front of the case to be honest but if someone says for sure it doesn't fit there then fair do's....a H100 or similar it is then ;)

As I said was just spit balling ideas around in the early morn. Case is a personal preference anyway, as the H440 is brand new (pre-order to be precise) I thought I'd point it out.

Thanks again for the specs. Im not mining anything yet i just fancied having a go after reading the threads on here, seems like a bit of a challenge getting the best out of your gpu and running it all stable (just like overclocking i guess) also its a bonus if you can make something on it! Im mainly interested in gaming though but thought i could try mining then maybe build a miner later too if i want to keep going.

If you are wanting a gaming/mining hybrid, i think this (above) is ideal..

The 2 x 280x's will give you enough GPU power for games and massive ability to mine when you're not gaming.

Though personally the benefits of 'part-time mining' are massively outweighed by the negitives, cost, power usage ect.. I would suggest you decide..

You either go fully in for it, or don't bother atall..

If you decide not to bother, one of hono's builds are ideal and amazing gorgeous. Though you will need to select a different cooler, a H100i maybe

Thanks for the compliment buddy :)

I thought it did look a bit lush too :) Funny thing is I've not really spent out to make it that way intentionally lol

The H440 is more than the Ronin but the RAM I used is faster and cheaper than the Avexir Green LED kit so it roughly averages out. With the PSU you don't see it through the window, so being white doesn't really matter but it's a nice touch keeping the theme and the price for the 850W and gold rating is good, being modular is also awesome.

I watched TTL's review of the H440 and it looked to me like the CLC would reach to the front just fine. The case is taller but shorter in length than the Ronin for example, so there is less distance to travel. If I was wrong I do apologise, there are plenty of alternate CLCs/heatsinks to choose from :)

Thanks for all your help guys lots to think about. A mate has also just offered me his old 2600k cheap do you think it would be worth going with this ( with the relevant board obviously) and spending the saved money on better cooling to overclock better?
