Spec ideas

Looking at the options of either getting a new iMac or a PC. Have about £1600 to spend. The PC would need a monitor (preferably 24") and mouse (G9 please) but no keyboard or speakers. Would need an OS. Has been a while since I built my last PC, so am slightly out of touch. I would be really grateful if someone could spec me a system for about £1500. I could build it myself, I did so last time.

The alternative is a top spec iMac with 4850 for £1580 with HE discount, convince me that a PC is a reasonable idea instead!

Would be used for image processing, usual stuff and some gaming as well. i7 would be good if it can be done for that price.

Really don't see any need for a Mac over PC if you want image processing and gaming. If you're looking at a PC with a balanced spec and a 4850 it's gonna be around £600-700?

i7 is definitely possible with that budget, a very nice i7 spec is possible in fact but I'll let someone who's well acquainted with tri channel ddr3 and X58 mobo's do the speccing.

Just please don't get a Mac, particularly if you're interested in gaming.

Here's an idea of the parts you could get for £1300 - that allows around £200 for the screen, but arguably you won't need a 4870X2 so you could drop it and spend more on a screen.

Much faster than the equivalent Mac, and much more suited for gaming.
