im upgrading my PC, im currently looking at:

CPU: Opteron 170
M/BOARD: DFI LanParty ULTRA-D
RAM: Mushkin 2GB DDR XP4000 XP
GFX: PowerColor ATI 1900XT
HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB
CASE & COOLING: Swiftech 'Ultra' WC Kit & Saprano Case
PSU: Hiper Type R 580W

Total: £1,340.87

my problem is i only have £1,127.92 to spend.... any ideas how i can get that price down with out hurting the spec too much

PS: the water cooling stays, though you can advise on a better value for money one.

Why the expensive watercooling system? I'd forget it, the Opteron 170 will clock fantastically on air, even with the stock cooler. Up to you but if you're on a tight budget it seems a very silly thing to spend lots of money on!

Get the GSkill RAM, maybe change to the ASUS AR8-MVR for a little saving. If still too expensive, you could change to an X1800XT which is a fair bit cheaper and maybe not too much slower.

Depends what kind of noise levels you're looking for.

There's a few choices out there -

The big typhoon is supposedly one of the best, But it's pretty loud from what i've heard about it.

Xp-120, classic - fit it with a 120mm quiet fan if required.

Si120 i think it is, is also another good choice.

Zalman 9500 (i think) is pretty good too.

As for the graphics card, artic cooling or the zalman gfx cooler.

ok if i do scrap the water cooling (which i realy dunt wanna do :(....) what air cooling you reccomend for a 170 (clocked @ 2.6) and a 1900XT (clocked @ XTX)

I don't understand why you don't want to drop the water cooling, it's really not needed for even good clocks on what you're using. I am very easily able to get 2.6 on my 170 and XTX speeds on my X1900XT using the stock coolers. Why not get the bits and try it? If you want to get a better cooler or go to water then you can always do it later. The WC is a lot of money for very little benefit. Just my opinion.

And please don't bump threads after 8 minutes, it's rude, messes up the forum and there's really no need!

This is what i came up with.

I put the watercooling together, i know the tubing aint the right size but its in there for reference. All you will need is a water additive, unless ive missed something which someone will pick out if i have.
Its a good machine overall for your price and the 3800+ can be overclocked just shy of a Fx60 just with half cache.

going with the G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 would also save me another £35. but i think i can afford the extra £40 over budget and stick with the mushkin

thats with stock cooling.... guess il get it home, test some clocks and decide on some aftermarket cooling at a later date....

thanx for all the advise

Went for the Opty 165 as it's still dual core and Ought to clock similarly.
The Asus board is the one used by OCers in their opty based mega overclocked rig and works great for me too. Went air cooling using tried and tested coolers. The cooler is quiet and used in many OCuk rigs including my overclocked Venice rig ( which is sitting at 2.6ghz stable ). Tagan is my prefered PSU choice.
