Hi All,

I want to run multiple Windows VM's in VMWare pro. Not a huge gamer just play indie titles so super high FPS isn't a deal breaker

From reading I need fast RAM but I would like 64GB however the 8pack kits only come on 32GB max over 4 modules AFAICS.

Also not clear on best mobo. It doesn't need lights or that.

So let's say budget 1500 to 2k max
2700x
Mobo
RAM 64gb preference / 32gb minimum
M2 drive 500gb
PSU to drive it all - modular please

I have a 1080 , Fractal case ( R5 or S ), monitor, OS and Keyboard / mouse

Over to you ...

how does this look ?

The 2700x comes with a cooler which 'should' be fine right ? RE the RAM the Asus Mobo says:

AMD Ryzen™ 2nd Generation Processors
4 x DIMM, max. 64GB, DDR4 3466(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2800(O.C)/2666/2400/2133 MHz

but I couldn't find any in 3466 section that weren't out of stock ? Should I drop to 3200 or can I get the correct clock on a 3600 set ?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,480.00 (includes shipping: £11.10)

alternate 3200 RAM

thanks - pulled the trigger on the 2700x build( itchy finger anyway ! ) went with the 3200 RAM as has better timings AFAICS and an article in another thread showed that faster MHz doesn't really add much performance wise and swapped out the PSU for a superflower 750W Gold modular :)

so built it today but when I put the RAM profile to the 3200 it bluescreens fairly quickly - had a variety of message:
1st : DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then 2 x PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

turning off the RAM profile and it seems to run ok so far - I'm even running Prime95 while writing this and no issues

I'm not super good under the hood although prepared to learn take any advice to get the RAM running at advertised speed !.

Ah yes, Ryzen RAM woes... there's a few of us in that boat.

Still yet to iron out my own bugs, but just check: RAM in correct slots- check your mobo manual. Mine needs the two sticks in A2 & B2, not, as you'd reasonably expect, A1 & B1.
Also, more volts. I'm reliably informed that with 1.35v memory, you can tease it up to 1.45v quite safely. Might be worth adding 0.02v increments and see if it helps.

If I manage to solve anything myself, I'll post back!
I have 4 sticks of 16GB so 64GB total all same G-skill as linked above so it SHOULD be ok. I'm a noob at playing with timings though so would happily run it as now with looser timings and just under top rated speed - currently 3000Mhz 16-21-21-50-1T - I'm sure there is a lot of wriggle room to tighten as it can do 14-14-14-34 3200 but I saw a calculator thing in the Ryzen 2 thread I will explore and see how that looks

ok so going into the BIOS of the ASUS X470-PRO and switching on the TPU 1 profile seems to have done the trick I hope. Not stress tested but it's booted and not immediately BSOD after a minute or two at proper 3200 14-14-14-34

EDIT so I had the voltage for the RAM at 1.37 as per the advice in this thread to increment in 0.02 amounts. This I did before doing the TPU thing but also switched on the TPU profile at same time - so now have gone and reduced voltage back to 1.35 - BSOD immediately - can't even get to desktop - so 1.355 now and again not stress tested yet but so far so good
