Chaps,

Looking at facing a longer commute for work, about 1h30m from Reading to Bedford, using a lot of motorway.

I want something that'll be comfortable for commuting on, but not soul-destroyingly boring when I'm not on the motorway. I won't be getting rid of the Bonnie, and I've wanted something different for a while, so I want something that'll eat up miles, but also be fun for the weekend.

I was originally thinking of a sporty 600, but am concerned about comfort over lengthy motorway distances. I've not tested anything yet, but am looking for suggestions for a shortlist including all types of bikes.

Budget is approximately £2000. Any thoughts?

FJ1200.
I have one myself that gets ridden every day. In fact I just did a 170 mile round trip for work today, through all manner of motorway traffic, finishing with crossing through Reading town centre in rush-hour traffic. Not a moment when I wasn't loving this bike!!

Very popular bike for those who know it, very solid, cheap and plentiful parts, great owners community, maintenance is a breeze, it's built like a tank and about the biggest downside is the lack of shaft drive, really.

For motorway stuff especially, there ain't none better... as you discover when you first give it some in 5th from 60 upward, heh heh!! ;):D

As I'm in Reading myself, we can arrange a meet up if you want to look around it.
You can expect to pay £900-1600 for examples in stunning condition!

VFR, Mines a 750 but you'd get an 800 for that money. Will cruise all day long & is well comfy. Mine still tops 150 & gets there quick enough & is real easy to ride no matter what you are doing on it.

I'll stick my usual vote in for the zx6r or zx9r,late 90's early 2000 models as they are less race focused riding position and have bigger seats

Another vote for the VFR, although a cbr600f/sv650s would also be just as good if not a little whiny on the motorway.

How about a Honda Firestorm? You'll get a nice one for well under your budget and the torquey V-twin and tall gearing means relaxed cruising.

You could also look at a Triumph Daytona 955i, or the Sprint if you want a more touring oriented machine.

VFRs are good bikes, but not particularly easy to work on if you DIY.

vfr800 it's lovely on thew motorway and still great for a bit of fun, loving mine :D

the cbr600fs was nice on the motorway but the mra doubble boubble on the vfr just makes it so comfy.,

not that you'd break the law in such a way but it's about 125/130mph before you even have to think about tucking in a bit lol

what happened to the 675? :(

It's still an option, if I decide to spend a bit more. But I'm looking at spending a little less and getting something that's more comfortable for a daily motorway commute. I'm not sure the Daytona ticks that box.

Thoughts on commuting 1hr+ daily on a Daytona?

The VFR sounds interesting though, I shall have to go and check it out, along with the CBR600F. Those are the primary two I had really considered in the past, so it's good to hear my original thoughts aren't way off the mark.
