I would really appreciate it if I could get a spec for a family member for

£500

I got an email saying:"We would want to use it for music downloads, digital photos and possibly video, word processing etc"

Must have a 17" TFT and Firewire

EDIT: and now some casual gaming

Thanks

Yes you will, look what they want to use it for.....I don't see anything where you need a beast of a PC unless I have missed something?

[edit]

Obviously you won't get a TFT in for £400 but otherwise i dont see why not

thanks jaxon ;)

anyway update.I eamiled just to make sure theres no casual gaming going on and there is!

email just come in:

"despite having a PS2, PSP, game cube and a nintendo DS the kids want to play games"

and now the budget is definatly £500

come on peeps :p

You could take Jaxon's suggestion. Change the Hard Drive to an 80GB SATA and change the case to an OCUK Value case or an ASUS case for a better PSU. That should bring you >£500

the x300 SE wont play games though? will it?

Well it all depends on what type of games they want to be playing.

When you say kids are we talking 9/10 or 15/16/17 (if you concider that kids).

They play differnt games. For instance I am pretty sure an X300 will play SIMS 2 for a 9/10 year old but it wouldnt play Battlefield 2 for a 15/16 year old.

I also suggest you have a look at the "B grade" section for some of your components so you can get it on budget.

This is reasonable for the money.

£19.95 £19.95
Subtotal £440.00
VAT £77.00
Total £517.00

The 17" gaming monitor that OCUK sells is around £35 more after VAT. I'd suggest either using this spec for about £530 including delivery, or ask for around £575 for the spec with the larger monitor.

Hi there,

Just to let you know, Dace has NOT included a graphics card in there, but he HAS included your operating system, cordless mouse and keyboard but has got a 15" TFT included NOT a 17" as requested

Just bare that in mind...

Thanks...

The Asus barebones comes with an onboard 9600

they won't want a SFF pc though.

I'm really stuck at what gfx card to get in this budget.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 90nm (Socket 939) - OEM £89.95 £89.95
MB-120-AS Asus A8N5X nForce4 (Socket 939) PCI-Express £51.95 £51.95
MY-004-OK OcUK Value 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 £44.95 £44.95
HD-090-MD Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 200GB£52.95 £52.95
CD-024-NE NEC ND4550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter£25.50 £25.50
CA-000-AR Arctic Cooling T1 Silentium Silent Midi Tower Case - 450W £45.95
GX-098-SP Sapphire ATI Radeon X550 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (PCI-E £34.95 £34.95

Subtotal £346.20
Shipping (City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)) £10.95
VAT £62.51
Total £419.66

this leaves the monitor but I can get one from else where for £120 so this takes it to

£539

which would be ok but what is that gfx card like?
I have no idea about low level pc hardware whats better than the other low level stuff

BTW thanks for the help

I have clearly stated that it comes with a 15" monitor, I've also stated the price to upgrade to a 17" TFT. The onboard 9600 has already been mentioned.
