Hi guys, my 50" LG plasma packed up last week and whilst I'm looking to have it repaired I'm also looking for a replacement. I've no idea about the current standards but looking around it seems UHD, HDR are the way to go? Are they really an upgrade to 1080p?

I've got a budget of around £400- £800 to spend on a new set. Preferably cheaper as it's only a bedroom TV which in the future will be used in my shed so standards aren't as important as a living room TV.

Also, John Lewis would be my preferred store so I can get a bit of discount:)

Narrowed it down to Samsung UE55KU6000 or Sony Bravia 55XD7005 has anyone got these sets? benifit of the Sony would be inbuilt Android TV but Sammy slightly cheaper.

If you want proper HDR then you want to get yourself the KS7000 in 49".

A bit over budget £849 from john lewis but it's much better than anything else been mentioned so far.

You will regret buying an 8 bit panel if you don't get this.

If viewing angles are a must then buy an LG 7 series or 8 series

LG 55UH770 LED HDR Super 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, 55" With Freeview HD/freesat HD, Harman Kardon Sound & Bright Metal Design

is £849 but with this TV you won't need a sound bar.

Best built in sound I have ever heard apart from those ridiculous soiny TV's with the 2 HUGE black bars on either side of the TV adding another foot to the width.

How good is the KS7000 seen mixed reviews. Mainly on Richer sounds reviews
It's the best tv for the money atm. it's in a league of it's own because it's a 10 bit panel which means proper HDR.

i wouldn't trust random reviews off richer sounds but those of professional calibrators on avforums and hdtvtest.

there are better tv's out there but they aren't in the same league in terms of value for money. what you get is a lot basically for the price paid.

I know this may sound a stupid question but how does it handle SD channels? i know SD looks poor. Films we would be watching are BluRays not 4K and Sports would be HD to

You should seriously consider the Hisense as it's a great tv.

Sony TV android system is well known to be a bit of PITA from what I've read, not experienced it myself. The Hisense SMART features work well.

Regardless of what content you watch all decent tv's nowadays only come in 4K. So it's a mute point. There is no such thing as a decent 1080p panel in the brand new market.

Hisense isn't Smart at all. It has netflix and possibly youtube built in but that is it.

I gave away one it was that bad and my dad has a 65" Hisense and whilst it was only around £1000 I would opt for a smaller KS7000

Trade off vs. bigger screen of the 55"? I'll be viewing from around 5 meter away

If you want bigger then get the LG 55UH770. However it's an 8 bit panel with dithering it does have outstanding viewing angles and the best built in sound on any modern tv.

The KS7000 does look a nice tv. But i think im going to go for a OLED in the next year or year and half and spend on a good 55". Not really in the market at min im happy with my H6400 at the mo
