Is the Acer X34P still "the one" ?
I've seen a lot of new panels now and I'd like to spend less than that. Minimum 100Hz and preferably Gsync compatible.

Is there a compromise to be had with VA panels ?

Horrible time for decent gaming monitor purchases, said in another thread. Many of the good ones are out of stock or the price has been massively inflated.

because people are working from home and companies are/were buying loads of monitors for their employees.

That makes little sense for the gaming monitors I’m talking about. People don’t need 144hz Gsync monitors to work from home :p

Plenty of bog standard office style monitors still available.

All those bankers, traders etc that were going into the office with their usual 4+ monitors (each) on their desks, now at home, still need that same real estate but dont have room for 4 monitors? no sense?

Who wants to play games on a bog standard style monitor while getting paid to work from home ;):p

60hz ultra widescreens aren’t facing the same stock issues and massive price hikes we’re talking about here.

The OP and my posts are talking about gaming monitors with 100+ hz and gsync . Why would a banker or trader go and buy such a monitor when they can still easily buy the setup you’ve described above  Also which banker or trader is lacking the money or space for a big desk, many of them are still in the office or will already have a home office setup.

or will already have a home office setup.
This is what gets me

There a rumour saying monitors are selling like hot cakes due to people working from home

But i would have thought almost everyone had a desktop PC setup or laptop at home before this virus even started (And specially office & bank workers)

Nah, I agree that a lot of people will have needed equipment but you’re going to have a hard time convincing your boss you need a 100hz 3440x1440 gsync screen to work on word and excel. Cost saving is a major priority at the moment and the vast majority of people I know who now have to work from home were just given laptops, as asking most office bods to connect a desktop to a monitor is like rocket science.

There are still plenty of budget monitors available and even large 60hz 4k ones if you need the screen space.

As I said, the main issue seems to be with the decent gaming ones. I think they’ve all been snapped up by gamers at the beginning of the lockdown and supply has dried up now. Doesn’t help when LG continuously push the dates back on their upcoming models!

That's your opinion but i think you underestimate the type of kit people in those positions can get hold of and are allowed, plus if it comes to it, there's loads of places that "install" kit for you.

However, it's not that people are buying up gaming monitors per se, but there are a lot of monitors being purchased for people that are now working from home. Your company might being told they can only use laptops but i also know that a lot of companies have giving their employees budget for a new monitor, or they're being sent them directly.

Anyway, my point is, there are a lot of monitors being sold, the world over, for all those employees and that is driving up the cost of monitors regardless of type thereby artificially driving up the value of HEDT monitors. You can see it happening if you use keepa.com to track pricing on the jungle site. Look at any of the graphs and they tend to start going up around when furloughing started to happen. It's not because there's a shortage, this is not so much a supply and demand issue, i believe it's because of value-based pricing. At the moment the value of a monitor is high.

Your post just seems to have entirely ignored the points I was making.

I’m not underestimating anything, the prices and stock levels of budget monitors and larger 4k 60hz ones aren’t the issue. They’ve barely risen in price and there’s still plenty of stock. You’re not going to convince me that employers are purchasing gaming monitors so people can work from home, sorry.

WFH has been in place for well over a month now for most places and anyone needing kit will already have it.

You're probably both right - but the traders I knew couldn't care less about refresh rates or Gsync. They do care about clarity, size and style.
In the meantime - there doesn't seem to be much about. That Redwing looks the business but it's Freesync and I'm still on a 1080ti

Why is it a problem that it is a freesync monitor? Adaptive sync works just fine on pascal and touring gpus.
