Spec me a 3D rendering Supercomputer !!!!

Since Intel RAID is software RAID anyway, I suspect that you could set it up anyway. The RAID card available with the Mac Pro is a hardware RAID card.

Which RAID level do you want to run?

mac pro arrived... 2 hours later it was running windows xp 64bit :) (dual boot must say I did like mac os too).

What can I say but wow.

Quick cinebench and I got 21,500 on multi cpu 3,500 odd on single core - all at stock of course.

Awe smacked !

Sounds great, any pics?

I just configured a mac pro with everything at max to see the price: dual 3.2 Xeons, 32Gb RAM, 4 solid state 300Gb drives. Comes to £17,300 lol

LOL at your dream machine. I'm out an about now but nothing has changed as far as the mac pro is concerned looks the same as the old one except it comes with a sexy slim (may I say unusable :) ) keyboard.

Or maybe you want screen grabs of the benchmark :)

Sorry if this is repeating what has been said but I will put my 2p in as I to do 3D rendering. I would strongly recommend you have 2 pcs. At work I used to have one Pc and be twiddling my thumbs while it rendered my scences (not the best thing with the boss watching you :D) So have one PC with a good GFX card in (a 8800GTX would be fine and save you money) average memory (2GB) and a Dual Core. Then your render machine would have the cheapest GFX you can bung in it and 4GB+ of memory and the Quad or 8 Core CPU if you can get it.

Here is the reasoning behind that: The PC with the good GFX will be your work/modelling machine as you will be only modelling you want a good GFX to handle the models in the viewports. The Quad/8 core machine will be for rendering as you need as much memory and CPU power as possible, GFX has nothing to do with rendering. Not sure what software you will be using but Max comes with backburner for setting up a connection between the 2 pcs.

Hope that makes sense and helps you.
