I'm looking for a 47" HDTV. I've not bought one since 2006 so I don't know anything about the new technologies that have come out since then. All I know is there will be a media center and xbox connected to it by HDMI and it must have built in Freeview. My budget is around £600.

As I'll be gaming on it there should be no or very little lag on the TV. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Think I've found a winner: Toshiba 46TL868B

Toshiba 46TL868B review | from TechRadar's expert reviews of Plasma and lcd tvs

I have a Toshiba at the moment and love it. The SD and HD quality is great even by todays standards and it's 6 years old!

Personally i would never buy a tosiba, they always look at the bottom of the pile to me.just my opinon

sorry i wont be much help, never really considered or spent any time looking at lcd, i went plasma

What made you go for a plasma over an LCD?

If you have room that iant bright, and you are not worried about the miniscule saving an lcd saves there pretty much are no reasons not to go plasma

For me its the black levels.
Lcd still rely on a backlight so inevitably blacks arent black as on a plasma..no back light
They are better for sport
Definitly films..animation may look better on lcd..especially action/horror

I'm split between the LG 47LM620T and Samsung EU46EH6030. Went to see both in store and was really impressed by the 3D on the LG. I really want to see it's SD performance as I only ever watch Freeview SD. Things certainly have changed from 6 years ago, most of these HDTV's today are almost identical in features and performance.

Have a look at the LG 47LM620T. Richersounds will do it for £739 in store with 5 year warranty as John Lewis are £750 with 5 year warranty.

If you are only watching SD then a Plasma may be better for you?

I have seen Virgin SD through the 47LM620 and it looks ok for SD. HD content does indeed looks great through it.

It is worth noting that the LG is a slim line TV whereas the Samsung is 10cm thick to the LG's 2.7cm. The samsung also only has 2 HDMI inputs to LG's 4.

I'll be buying the TV this month or next, are there any new TV's coming out during this time? I'm still pondering on the LG 47LM620T or Samsung UE46ES5500

EDIT: Seen a Samsung UE46ES6300 for £750 but only 1 years warranty

LG 47LM620T gets my vote personally wont touch a Samsung as ive had too much trouble with the ones i had.

Ive been pondering the LG, just need to convince the missus we NEED a new telly, ive looked at it a few times in store and had a tinker which tbh impressed me.

The smart features are really well laid out, with most of the major stuff you'd need, if you get the magic remote, it makes it even easier to navigate then screens.

Im considering it over my 3year old Pana plasma, and tbh over most panas of this gen for value for money.

Got the LG 47LM620T after looking at loads in store, very happy with it and must be the only TV that the wife kept going back to when we went looking for a new one.
Can't fault the 3D or HD on the set, found the SD blurry but i find that looking at SD on any TV, too used to HD really.
Only recommendation is too make sure you try all the ones you are looking at, and go with the one that looks best to you, remember everyone's eyes are different.

I am also looking at the LG 47LM620T. Argos are currently doing it on sale for £679.99 which is price matched by John Lewis with 5 year warranty. VERY tempted to buy at that price.

Would like the 670T as it is a slightly nicer design and has Wi-Fi built in, but a wee bit outside my budget. Could probably stretch to the price, but not sure I can justify the price difference.

I think (could be wrong) the 670T suffers 24p playback issues, which the 620T doesnt.

I would recommend the magic remote though, makes using the smart functions so much more fun.
