Spec me a 5850 replacement!

You want decent FPS in GTA, get an i7. I was disappointed with my frames with my Q6600 @ 3.8, then I seen a few utube vids with guys with a 5870 and an i7 @ 3.9, he was averaging 60, whilst I was doing 40...

I average 60 with my 5850. :)

Yeah i7/i5 rock in a lot of games, just seen LFD2 on an i7 and a 5870 hes averaging 50 fps more than me and my cards clocked way higher..:(

This really got to me so I have an i7 920 and rampage extreme on the way.

That's why it grits my **** when peeps go on about not needing a decent cpu for gaming.

Darn it, now I'm considering a platform upgrade!!

Yeah the i7's a beast, i was averaging about 52 with my old 4870 1gb with it, and on my old E6600 (with the 4870 as well), i was only averaging 33, and that was at the lower res of 1280x1024, and lower gfx settings, plus there was like a short delay on trees and building details etc... appearing when i turned around, but don't even get none of that on the i7, its all there :p

Personally I wouldn't make any knee-jerk reactions, you have a great system and Windows 7 will continue to mature with newer and better updates, am I right in saying that they haven't yet released a service pack...so I'd wait a while. With regard to Crysis, unless you have something like tri-sli water cooled 285's or quad 4870X2's / 295's it won't run ' that ' great, though it should run reasonably well.
In short, wait for updates to Windows 7 and ATI drivers, give it a little more time, you have to take that in to account with new tech. :)

How does 5770 xfire stack up on non double 16x boards ? for example on a x16 x4 board ?

I average 60 with my 5850.

What's odd is the CPU usage difference.

I think its the games that are the problem, we all know GTA IV runs as smooth as a car with no tyres, need for speed shift has natural EA problems which the upcoming patch being released end of nov and the new ATI hemlock driver should both resolve any issues

I don't kno why HAWK is perfoming poor it ran really well on my previous 4850 might be a game issue, Im sure you have tried this but reduce the overclock on the CPU or take it back to stock for testing, im sure you tried this already tho =/

Benchmark is **** and is not representative of in game performance where the CPU is really worked hard.

especially the gta iv benchmark, that part of the city is always smoooth, and theres little build up on that part, i just need to iron out the kinks in real time gameplay.

Personally, I would wait for Fermi to be released, the price wars to commence and see what cards are abound.

TBH Company of Heroes is my favourite game and Ive always been in the green team, but switched to 5850 as it has had such favourable reviews, it was fast but there were constant glitches in the graphics so just sold it for 20% more than I paid for it and ill go back to nvidia while i wait for fermi...

Out of curisoity what ram and ram settings you got going on?

OK the CPU might be half decent and clocked at a good rate but if you have something stupid like 2 gb of mem running at 800mhz then that will bottleneck your system.

I would wait a few weeks and see if the 9.12 drivers fixes all your issues if I was you.

Let's face it, there is not much to swap to at the moment and Fermi is still perhaps 5-6 months away.
