Over the last 2 weeks i have been trying to combined 3 old systems to make 1 ok system i the proses of doing so i have bricked 1 motherboard, damaged 1 CPU and Just killed a PSU :D. So I think maybe it time to say spec my a good motherboard and amd CPU for around £250, i have all the other parts needed.

i dont mind X2 X4 or X6 core's just something stable that will list 12 months min.

i only have 1 demand MUST be AMD, i have 2 intel systems and i want to try AMD

Jeebus, you've not been lucky.

Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2 AMD 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard and AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1075T 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail. Assuming you want to spend £250 on a motherboard and CPU.

Ram: 4gb ddr2 1066 (4x1gb) or 2gb ddr3 1333 (2x1gb)
PSU: OCuk battle 450w Can change if needed problem will it was a necessary buy.
GFX: ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

wife will use it for shopping (grrrr). little boy for playing games 8years old so not going to be hammering it. and i will be gaming again not really hammering it.

the X6 look's sweet but is there a better combo ie: X4 with a good board and a OC ect... or is the X6 the dog balls

depends which would you prefer ddr2 or ddr3
and as for the x6 apprently games wise you would be better of with a x4

I'm not so sure about the x6 vs x4. Neither of them will be stressed by what you've described, but years down the line I think the x6 will have more punch in it than the x4.

motherboard has sata and usb3.0 and depending on your pc usage, you could pick a PhenomII X4 955 instead.

ok ddr2 it is bear in mind that this won't be very upgradeable and is dated

mobo http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-299-GI&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=1482 £50

cpu

total £118
anymore than this and you won't really see any benifit so there is no piont in spending money on a flash cpu

I think that's the best suggestion yet. It will steamroll the tasks you've described, and put something in the bank to start off for your next upgrade in perhaps 18-24 months time.

after looking at some reviews and so on, i think X4 would be best for me the X6 would be ££'s in the bin it would never be pushed. also a board like Crosshair III would not be used to it potential

As a person trying AMD for the first time would this make a good impression or leave me craving intel

i would go with ddr2 as i save £50 on buying more ddr3 to go with what i have

4Gb of corsair XMS3 1600mhz ddr3 is only like £45 now ;)

Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBCN0-G0EAY00Z]

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 970 Black Edition "140W Edition" 3.50GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail [HDZ970FBGMBOX]
