Hi guys,

As some of you may know I'm going travelling around Europe for a few weeks in August. I have The North Face Base Camp Medium Duffel Bag, but I need another bag for the day time. Can anyone recommend one?

It'll be mainly to keep my important documents (passport etc) with me all the time, when I've left my rucksack at the hotel/hostel.

I have looked at something like this:

and also this:

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Personally I'd go for a shoulder bag (i.e. a single strap bag) so that you can swing it round to the front in crowds etc.

Always use my Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack when I travel...it's quite pricey though, but it's built to last.

I have this backpack with a secret pocket that is on the back so that it is pretty much impossible for someone to get to it as long as it's tight.
I have had it for 5 years, sadly they don't make them anymore but have a look on ebay for a blue samsonite.

Check out Osprey packs. I travelled around the world and used one for my daypack. No complaints. Has chest strap so no one can rip it off your back. Can fit waterproofs, food, water, guidebook in it. Mine took a lot of punishment after 9 months on the go but they are very well made. Only cost me 20 pounds from Ellis Brigham at the time.

What do you think of the duffel?

I would have a look at Alpkit, they are a small British company that make climbing and trekking gear. They make well designed and make stuff that is really cheap when compared to the big guys.

Their Gourdon rucksack (20L) is perfect for this. A drybag so if you get caught in a shower all your stuff stays dry, lightweight and simple design and very secure as its much more difficult to get in to a rolled top pack than a zip. Biggest thing is its £20 delivered, which is a bargain.

Really pleased with the duffel. Excellent quality and perfect size. I ordered the small at first and then cancelled it for the medium, it was a good job I did! 70 litres isn't as much as it sounds.

Cheers, I'll have a look at them :)

You have big pockets if you can keep all your documents, phone, camera, wallet and god knows what else in. Maybe I should invest in some trousers with bigger pockets, maybe.

You wouldn't get away with it in tight-fitting jeans, but a pair of Craghoppers (or whatever brand you prefer) has enough zip pockets to easily store wallet, documents and phone.

Maybe your camera has its own carry case?

What else do you need to carry around with you?

Well as we're InterRailing we'll be on trains so I want to make sure I've got my passport with me all the time. Then when I'm leaving my main rucksack in a hostel I don't want to leave anything of value or importance in it. I thought something like the link below would be ideal. I'm open to any suggestions though, or just general advice from anyone who I done InterRailing/travelling before.

I interrailed, and as said I used a moneybelt. However a lot of the time I kept my passport, wallet and train ticket in my front pockets. I wouldn't want to have it in a bag as I'd be worried about someone pinching it and/or me leaving it somewhere - especially after a few!

I'm not sure how much room you think you need, ticket can be folded and put inside your wallet (you don't need that diary or anything like that). Passport isn't big, nor are phones. Easy.
