Spec me a bedroom TV please.

every panel made by ever company? nobody would know that. there are websites you use to look it up.

but you missed Panasonic off your list when you said "stick with" the 902B was arguably the best TV of 2018 and is still very highly regarded , just wondered why you would offer the advice you did but omit Panasonic ?

didn't realise a 65" classified itself as a budget model tv

because panasonic's budget tv's are crap that is why i took them off my list

because they actually make their own panels or buy them from each other.

other companies will use inferior panels from no name companies which are cheap crap at the budget end anyway which this is.

It would be nice if it was quite that simple.

For a start, Sony is renown for sourcing parts from other suppliers. It is now largely a marketing organisation rather than the innovator and manufacturer that it was in consumer goods decades ago.

Also, although Samsung and LG had large panel fabrication operations, both manufacturers are more than happy to purchase panels from 3rd party suppliers where it offers a cost advantage, and they routinely outsource supply of panels of specific sizes where there's no in-house fabrication at those sizes.

Panasonic did try to keep panel production in-house, but economies of scale worked against them. Sharp is still key player in the Japanese home market. In fact, last I heard, Sharp makes premium products solely for its domestic market.

When it comes to the actual panels, it's less important who makes them, and more important about the type of panel (IPS or VA), the generation of the fabrication plant, and the grade of the panel.

BIB: Really? A TV that's cheap even by budget LCD standards isn't the same performance as your premium-grade latest tech' OLED which costs x4 or x6 or x8 the money. You do surprise me. Lol :D:D:D

It was 6 times the cost and I know that the Toshiba is no where near as good as my oled hence me pointing that out, however this set at £260 was a pocket money buy, I wasn't after anything fantastic and it fits my needs. How many 49" DV 4k TVs can you get for the price I paid.

The OP wants an inexpensive panel that's good value and I believe that the Toshiba I have fits what he's after so it was just a suggestion.

there is no way that TV can handle DV

there is no way that TV can handle DV

It's on the box and pops up with DV when receiving the metadata from Netflix, picture is, as I keep saying, ok but as its LED based it can't handle DV like the majority of LED based tv's that can't show true black, and likewise it's not premium branded so no where near the required 1000nits either for peak brightness.

Anyway I don't care it was £260 for a 49" screen to be used in the bedroom it had DV on the box and 4k on the box so bonus.

Here's a link for you to slate it further https://www.richersounds.com/tosh-49u6863.html
