ACK! i just seen the sticky, my apologies!

hi all, i want to start photography but i have no clue as where to start. Obviously a camera is needed as i only have a cyber-shot thingy atm (4.1 mega pixels) but what one do i get??? i would like to be able to get really clear pics and strong colours, and be able to take pics of the sky (night and day) where the camera actually picks it up. when i try take a pic with my cyber shot in the night it comes out all dark lolz.

also any tips u guys might have for tweaking (is it called that) in photoshop would be greatly appreciated, tho im guessing it always depends on the picture.

many thx in advance

maybe around £200?? i dont want the best there is just one that is good enough to create a good picture :) its hard for me to put a budget on because i dont know what differences that there would be. ( i hope that didnt sound blunt, it wasnt intended so, words on a screen ftl )

there are quite a few out there that woudl be available with that kind of budget.

It really depends on what you want to do with it, as to whihc woudl be suggested

for example would you be mainly photgraphing inside / low light, or is your preference more towards landscapes, or perhaps action shots, or a genreal holiday snaps kind of thing?

Do you want something that will fit nicely in your pocket, or do you want something with a big (x10 or better) zoom

from what you are saying about the sky, I would guess you need one that has manual settings so you can set your own shutter speed / exposure, but does your camera have options for specific light conditions. you may well be simply using the wrong settings, and whilst having a new cam is nice, a 4.1 mp one is pretty decent, and shoudld NEED to be upgraded

just my opinion of course.

hi thx for your reply, the reason i am looking for a new camera is because i cant seem to zoom in so well none of my shots look anywhere near as clear to some i have seen on this site (gits :P). im not looking for a holiday snaps camera, im looking at possibly starting photography as a 2nd hobby (2nd to pc's ofc)..more for landscapes/objects and those macro shots are appealing to me so i would like to try that. also im not fussed about size of the camera at all

many thx

I am assuming here that you don't really want a compact. I am going to suggest the Fuji Finepix S5600 :p I have it and if you want to look at my pictures (in sig) then see if that is what you want. It can be had for about £115 now and I think it is amazing value for money. If your budget is £200 however, maybe look at the better model, the S6500 for about £165 or maybe the Sony Cybershot DSC H2. I was a beginner with the S5600 though and it has taught me a lot.
