Spec me a Bike.

well if anyone can recommend any other bike shops near to stoke? I'll be sure to take it for a spin before hand, I checked out swinnerton cycles just down the road and it was 200 pounds more expensive for the same model,

Personally I'll check something out at a LBS or a local club, and then go and order it from the factory.

I didn't think they altered it at halfords ?? like not much different than it would be if I ordered it direct from Kona ? tbh if I like the bike the best price is the place I'll get it from

It's usually a lot cheaper direct from the factory.

Really?

The specialized I posted before I can't find anywhere for more or less than the RRP. Same seems to be true for my now 2nd choice of the Devinci Grind.

I've been to halfords now and again, and as above, it's the purple shirt group of bikes. :p (Doesn't Jonny ///M work there?).

Aye only just though. On my very last warning before getting the boot.

At my store theres 3/4 of us who ride and know a lot but there is some people that are juts good at BS'in so can make sales. Halfords just opened a new store and we had to train them and one of the guys was really into riding, had a P1 or something, and the other guy knew his way around a bike better than he would with a lady.

I personally have sent people to glasgow bike shops to look at the giant xtc and similar bikes......so meh.

The bikes that come in are the exact same as any other shop would get....my mate got a kona cowan for £400 :D

thanks, I'l probs get it from halfords if i like the ride, I cant find it for less than 500 anywhere else   maybe the guy got the price wrong on it, anyone here got the kona shred ? I sthere any other bike shops in stoke or around stoke? I've been to swinnertons but that was a bit of a rip off

Think so....the one that knows his stuff is called robin aswell

The shred doesnt look worth £600(SRP) but i cant see why halfords would have it so cheap as we tend to rip people off,i personnaly would look for something else for that price range. My mate has the blue cowan bike and its heavy and since its for dirt jumping the forks are as stiff as a queer in a gay bar.

Does it have to be a dirt jump bike?

not bothered between Dj or XC. my mate has jumps so I'd like to get into it tbh, on reviews it says the shred is a good climber so I'd hope I'd be able to take it everywhere not just dirt jumps

It could be £380 as its an 06 model?

I think the 06 and 07 are similar colours so its hard to tell the differance.

not bothered about the colour, lol, can the shred be used as an alround bike tho ?

I wouldnt really want to ride it around XC style trails tbh.....its just not built for it. My xile built up with saints + 130mm forks was lighter than my mates cowan by a lot so i wouldnt fancy riding it around anywhere.

u mean it will break? my mate has had the shred and says its a good alround bike, nd he's pretty experienced, reviews say its a good climber, I'd put upgrades on it in time such as better forks maybe, hydraulic disk breaks, some reviews complain about the deraileur so I might get that changed,.... any tips?/

thanks

Nah it certainly wont break i just mean its a bit heavy. The brakes are ok and you could upgrade to hyrdaulics like you said.....the rear mech is gay as **** though so get that changed asap.

ok can someone give some examples of what to get, and how they work and whats wrong with the one on there, so I Can understand ? thanks so much

Shimano Deore groupset or better (Deore<Deore LX/Hone<XT/Saint<XTR), definitely not Acera. Hydraulic disk brakes are a must (unless they're Avid Ball Bearings, which are the only decent cable ones).

so i think i'll stick with shimano, lol cuz I know their name :p , will pc world,, er I mean halfords be able to sort me out with these at a later date? or how hard is it to fit yourself? and the best bang for buck hydraulics are?

thanks mucho

Halfords will stock some rear mechs but will be overpriced. www.chainreactioncycles.com is really cheap and next day delivery is nice. They are really quite easy to fit but can be a problem if you dont have a chain splitter(can be solved by taking the mech cage apart) but can be done with just an allen key set + screwdriver.

All the kit mentioned above is the shimano range, sram is totally differe(sx4<sx5<X7<X9<X0)

ehh up whats that?? lol
I have a chain splitter, I think lol it like a rod that sorta comes out when u turn a nut with an allen srew and it fits on the chain, so I'm presuming it knocks out the linky bit, sorry for the crap explaination lol

according to kona, this is the geary stuff on the bike:
Chain: Shimano CN-IG31
Freewheel: Shimano CS-HG30 11-32 8 speed
F/D: Shimano Alivio
R/D: Shimano Altus
Shifters: Shimano Alivio
