Spec me a bike

Id like any bike at the mo :p but need to decide what im going to do next year, just get a bike and take it easy for a year or get the bike I want to race on and get ready to try racing in 2011 now :/

Haven't you got an SV650 to potter around on?

Also, off on an even bigger tangent, what series/club you planning to race in?

Just finished my rookie year (Bemsee F400), managed to break my wrist at the last meet (first race, last lap, d'oh :p) but damn it's good fun, expensive too, but worth every penny :D

Ended up selling my road bike to fund it though, so not had a road bike since april/may time I think it as, got plans to get an nc30 roadworthy once my wrist is fixed though, think 4 months of not riding a bike at all might be too much :p

Fazer 600, cracking bikes. Get the older one, carbed one. No point spending big money on a bike to commute on - you WILL get knocked off or fall off, if you ride it through winters it WILL get tatty.

It breaks my heart to commute through winter on my Mille, it's immaculate right now but another winter and it won't be! My Fazer was a dream to commute on. It was the 1000 though, but going by your attitude to your CBF at first you'd **** your pants if you got a Fazer 1000 so probably best go for the six :p

I work for a dealership but tend not to get too involved with he new bike stuff.

I know some of the lads are raving about that triumph though

Yea but still not sorted the brakes yet, my arms still not strong enough for taking them apart and my old mans working away so might have to wait untill xmas holidays now to get it on the road :/
Not sure yet, got Contact in NG and New Era, but also know a few people in Bemsee! I think I might do NG as they do all the tracks I love and some that I have yet to try out.
Yea get the Nc30 love the look of them :D haha tell me about it! im almost at 4 months now!

I'd say the triple looks very nice, however the pillion seat is very small, sit on one with the Mrs. she may well find it very uncomfortable.

Yamaha FZ6 lovely looking bike, I've never tried one but everyone i know who has one loves it.

My personal reccomendation, new shaped Hornet with C-ABS (though I am biased I used to have one and loved that little thing).

Yes ABS is a bit of a minefield, but I found I didn't every really have it kick in other than when I deliberately provoked it (to see what happens). For a newer rider it'd be more of something that may save your hide. Also with the ABS the hornet activates one piston on each of the front calipers when the rear is applied keeping the bike more settled. I found the Hornet very confidence inspiring and would get another one if I could justify having more bikes than I currently have......(3 in total at present)

Are you actually ok to ride now then, just no bike? If so that must be frustrating...

NG seem good from what I've heard, not really heard much abour New Era. Just had a look at the schedule, NG has Anglesey and Silverstone whilst Bemsee have Snetterton and Brands GP (I don't think NG goes to the GP circuit at least), Anglesey is supposed to be good and anything's better than Snetterton so can't go wrong with NG :p

I can reccomend the 400's, although to be front running you really need an 80bhp zxr it seems (or an 80bhp bike at least, can apparantly get the nc30's there but the money is silly, it's more to get a 70bhp nc30 engine than it is to get an 78-80bhp zxr one...)

Minitwins seems cheaper as no engine mods/72bhp limit, and you've already got the SV ;)

Saying that I race an nc30 and my first/main bike started out the beginning of the season as a road bike, to get the exhaust/suspension up to standard cost a lot, add in a brake upgrade and I could've got a race bike for the price of just the upgrades really...

Which of course I did as well, saw an nc30 racebike going for a decent price on the bay, bought that and it came with a shed load of spares. So that, and other ebay purchases, mean I've got 2 complete bikes, enough spares for a full third and 95% of a fourth nc30 as well :p

Plan over the next month/two is to get the two race bikes stripped down (general clean/maintenence + gonna make a brand new race loom up for them both) and also build up a road bike (2 of the 5 frames have valid v5's :)). And then gonna have to build up both race bikes for march (gonna be one main bike and a secondary wet/spare bike, bit overkill but it's all good :p)

Just a quick note to say thanks greatly for all the help.

Piccies will be posted when I buy my new baby.

There's second hand bikes -- THOUSANDS off the price -- with 700 miles on the clock! It's bizarre!

Thanks anyway --

Britters

Oh another thing I got an ex-demo model with a significant discount (As well as virtually every optional extra already installed) have a look around for pre-registered bikes with an older plate, or ex-demo they are usually quite a bit cheaper, especially at the moment

Just to note, the Speed Triple pillion seat isnt bad, the other half finds it comfortable.
The pegs are the problem, they are too high.

the 08+ bike has them lowered for more comfort though.

haha nice good luck with that :p

I do love the 400's but im 6'1 and look gangley on them :p not saying I wudnt though given the chance :D
I do have the SV for minitwins but its not standard, front end if of an SRAD so It would requite a lot of work and ebay to get back to minitwin standard.
Or enter it into the Sound of thunder/open but then im against much bigger bikes, though I do love a challenge :p
I really like the idea of the 675 Triple, awesome bike and I can enter it into quite a lot of races, can go in the 600's, the open and do well and into the sound of thunder, and its won quite a lot of them when I was Marshalling for NG.
Yea NG do Anglesey which is awesome and Brands indy, which I also love :D

And no cant really ride at the mo, arm still hurts a lot at bike riding position so not worth risking it, also the arm is not even 50% of strength back so I cant really risk it, if I come off at probably a stand still and put my arm out I will break it again :(
So going to be at least another month I think before I will have a go :/

As has been said above , there are loads of bikes to fit your budget etc

But moving from a 125cc to a 1000cc just as winter is kicking in may not be the smartest move. I'd get a bargain basement comfortable 500/600cc that I'd not worry about to last until spring then buy something special :)

You could race the SV and mod it further including engine tuning if you came to Bemsee and the Thunderbikes. The class has a power to weight ratio limit so the SV can be very competitive.

The main bikes in the class are 400's, SV650's, Ducati 748R's, old FZ750's, old GSXR750's, old ZXR750's and old CBR600's. There are a couple of super-moto SXV550's and the odd 250 2-stroke. I'm racing a Ducati 900SSie in the class and its great fun going up against such a wide range of bikes on a level playing field. Rules are pretty open, all engine tuning and parts can be used, tyres are full slicks but the power to weight ratio limit keeps everything in check.

Next year they are allowing other bikes in, early Ducati 916's, VFR750's etc as long as they meet the power to weight limit most bikes will be considered.

Got to be a Kawasaki ER-6F surely? Ticks every box and doesn't have the mental power of the bikes some people are suggesting! (I have no idea why people are suggesting 1000cc bikes for you!). Cost comes in at WELL under £10k that's for sure! Aftermarket heated grips can be added to any bike and are very cheap :) .

Which year 750's? surely any of the modern 750's would spank the rest of them with a good racer on it.
Tempted to Tune the SV, but I need to ride it on track first before even considering it, as I might hate it :p

You can only enter very old larger inline 4's up to 1992. So even my purple whale wouldn't be able to race. The earlier ZXR 750 is able to and the slab sided GSXR750's can. They come in around 110-120bhp at the rear wheel but they weigh tons and don't handle that well.

There is one sv650 which has been bored out to 700cc with GSXR suspension and magnesium wheels which is running at 90bhp and weighs right on the limit for the class. Very fast and ridden by a cracking rider, Steve Jordan. He's able to score points in the Supersport 600's on it at the twistier tracks!

Yea I know of steve jordan, him and his wife post on another forum. I bet a 90bph lightweight SV could be a lot of fun :D

Yeah Sarah Jordan rides in the SS600's too, quicker than me by a long long way!

Once you arms better fancy trying the SV out at Brands Indy with me?
