Spec me a budget PC....

B550 and A520 are incompatible with 3xxxG APUs

£79 Dell/HP/Lenovo system with i5 4670/4690 and whack an SSD in it. Total spend will be £100, and you'll be recycling. :)

Just goes to show how confusing the APU naming is especially for someone looking to build with next to know knowledge of PC parts.

Thanks for all the replies guy's - couple of further queries:

1) Most of the B450 motherboards appear to only support RAM upto 2933Mhz max - it it worth getting a 3200Mhz set with his in mind? (the last thing my dad is gonna do is overclock anything!)

2) With regards ATX/MATX am I right in thinking that MATX is simply a smaller form factor and both will fit in an ATX case?

Still worth getting 3200mhz imo unless the 0rice difference is a factor.

And yes your correct about sizes and fitment into a case.

Is there any issue with the Asrock B450 Pro4 in this build? (assuming I go for the Ryzen 3 3200G as suggested!)

I've noticed it is the full ATX size (which presumably means things won't be quite as cramped?) and it also has a Display Port output.

How does this look in terms of compatibility and value for money?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £326.61 (includes shipping: £11.70)

Any reason to consider higher than 400W for the PSU or go for a silver/gold version?

I'll go back to my suggestion above, why spend £326 on a PC that is as slow/fast as a 4th Gen Intel system that can be had for £80 refurbished? It's just a waste of money, unless you want to use the APU for games, or change the CPU in the near future (~18 months or less).

Where from?

I can't link directly as forum rules prohibit that, but try the worlds most famous auction site. I've had so many Thinkcentre's, ProDesk's, Optiplex's etc. I've lost count, normally get the mini-tower variants as invariably it is for a gaming PC on a very tight budget, but you can get SFF and USFF system pretty well priced, just pop in an SSD of your choice, lots also come with Windows 10 due to having a Windows 7/7 Pro license that has been upgraded.

Depending on what you want something with 8GB RAM/500GB HDD/ i5 4570/4590 or even some i5 6500's have been showing up for a little over £120, you just have to spend a little while looking. :)

I appreciate the advice but I just want something that I can put together and be confident that it is just going to work - refurbished from a manufacturer might have been something I'd consider but I can't stand the world's most famous auction site!

Again, thanks for the suggestion but I'd rather stick with new!

Fair enough, was just looking at one "HP EliteDesk 800 SFF i5-4670 3.40GHz 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, 500GB HDD, WIFI, WIN 10" £119 delivered, seems pretty enticing as it is ready to rock and roll as soon as it lands. :)

GL with your build though, make sure you've got the correct BIOS etc. for the 3200G, not all B450 boards have them out of the box.

Would these components go well together if I substitute the Ryzen 3 3200G for the Ryzen 5 3400G?

I presume the motherboard is still compatible and from what I've read the 3400G has the same power consumption?

Don't get the 3400g £50 wasted if your dad isn't going use its potential.

But yes they would still all work together.
