Spec me a build

I wouldn't take the X2 build myself. The i3 will spank it even before OCing is considered. Spending the extra on a modular PSU in this tight budget is just a waste imho.

I did suggest an X4 earlier - nobody seemed to notice :). The more I think about this build though, including the length of time the OP expects to keep it before upgrading, the more the i3 build seems the right choice imho.

Nice, but gonna need extra fan(s) for the Xigmatek case, and besides the case, the cost cutting was from removing the aftermarket CPU cooler. Originally the i3 530 was great because the bundle was pre-overclocked at 4.40GHz, but if having to DIY on overclock, guess that Phenom II X4 955BE would be a better option.

How high do you think the Phenom II 955BE can overclock on stock cooler? Personally one reason why I personally prefer a very high overclocked dual-core to a moderate speed Quad core, because of there are still lots of games don't use the extra cores...like my Q6600 at 3.0GHz ain't at great on mmorpgs comparing to CPU like E8400 at say 4.2GHz, since most of them are not optimised to use the extra cores. Also, I see Quad as being more of a necessity for people that Crossfire/SLI a pair of mid to high-end graphic cards than those that use a single mid to high-end graphic card.

3.7ghz -ish? would be easy(with stock cooler), thats only a multiplier increase of 2.5 to reach that.

i say, buy the best core bits you can afford now, buy a cooler next month when you have a spare £20 floating around, yes the AMD stock cooler is loud, but at least the hot summer days are behind us.

This, but switch the the Asus GTX460 DirectCU 768MB to the 1GB version since you are planning on going 1080p...but if you absolutely can't spend the extra, then stick with the 768MB version (+£47.73), and add the 212 CPU cooler (+£19.99)

Total: £595.28 (or £547.55 sticking with the GTX460 768MB)

Wouldn't recommend the i3 530 unless you are confident you can overclock it to 4.40GHz. Phenom II X2 555BE might be able to unlock extra cores, but it's down to luck and when at a lower clock speed, it will be slower than the i3 530 (i.e. Phenom II X2 555BE overclock to 3.8-4.0GHz average, where as the i3 530 can overclock to 4.2-4.4GHz average, and doesn't run as hot as tge Phenom II from what I recall).

kk im goin 1080p so 1gb and i was thinking i3 530 and overclock or phenom ii unlock and overclock im not really goin for a mid range build really just a budget build,can i still go 1080p with the 768mb and could you spec me alternative for the 1gb 460 if not then ill go for this build.

I'd go with the 1GB 460 i3 build in post #151 :). Get it built, start enjoying it, then read some overclocking guides, ask advice on here, then get yourself a cooler and have a go overclocking. You have an i5 or even i7 upgrade path on the same mobo a couple of years down the line if the dual-core starts to struggle, or maybe you'll build a whole new rig - who knows.

There really isn't a lot to choose between all these possibilities both in price and performance, which is partly why it's so difficult to decide! Whatever you get will be a fantastic rig and a million times better bang for buck than what you would get from the Purple Shirt brigade or the big OEMs. So toss a coin or something, make your decision, build, enjoy, upgrade when you need to. If you keep asking you'll just keep getting slightly different opinions :)

Why are you so adamant that every case being recommended needs more than one 120mm fan?

Also, expecting this guy to overclock when he is asking questions relating to memory on the MB and GPU being different specs of DDR is a bit much!

You are smart enough to ask questions if you are unsure, there is nothing wrong with that. But expecting you to overclock a CPU when you are obviously a novice, I think that is bad advice.

I don't want you to spend £500 on a new PC and fry it within the first week!
