Spec Me A Camera

I'm really swayed to the proper DSLR now, I'm sort of getting concered with having to get batteries, chargers etc, How long do these last usually?

On my 50D, I get over 1000 shots per battery. The reviews should give you some idea.

I'd still say handle the cameras before making a decision....

I'll try the smaller camera shop near my house and jessops tomorrow, I've got a couple weeks till I go on holiday, it'd be nice to get one before then.
Any advice on the minimum kit?
Camera
A lens
a bag
extra batteries? Charger? someone said filters to protect the sens or something?

A battery can't hurt, but don't get ripped off. I tend to buy aftermarket batteries for backup. A DSLR will come with a charger.

Don't worry about filters at the moment, not for protection on a kit lens at least, but a circular polariser is worthwhile and can add something to your pictures, but it's not an essential.

so i went round and manhandled some cameras. I really liked the canon dslr cameras, the man in the shop was pushing the EOS 1200D on me, they wanted 330 with a lens, rainforest has 309 with a lens.... is that a fair place to start? Or for the beginner i am would i do fine with the 260 quid EOS 1100D?

If you are not in a great hurry then may I suggest looking at the Canon Outlet on eBay?

I secured a Canon 700D with the latest 18-55 mm lens, as a gift for my brother. The cameras are professionally refurbished and the last three times I have bought from them the products all came looking like new, with pristine accessories and good condition boxes. You also still get a full 12 months warranty!

Even better than that however it was only £349 and it arrived the very next day. Shutter count was just over 100 actuations.

If you do chose to go this route check a couple of times every day as they are always updating it. :)

That ebay shop looks good, but I'm wanting it before I go on holiday on the 23rd, so I think for now I'll get the 1100D and get some practice in. I'll know where to go if I get into this whole picture taking thing :p
