Perfectly reasonable examples can be had for £3.5-£4K. UK cars are group 17 insurance so not "that" bad. Servicing is honestly cheap as chips and very practical etc etc.
And if you really wanted practical get an estate version. A bloke round the corner from me sold his for £2.7K last week and it was a very well looked after example on a N plate.
Only thing thats an issue is fuel but stick to UK cars and don't mod it and it will be happy on Tesco SUL as anything else.
