Sorry to start another "spec me" thread, but I didn't want to wreck that "sexy case" thread too much.

Here's my guidelines;
  • Sub £60, inc vat.
  • Good looking.
  • Black.
  • 120mm fans! Essential! 80mm = absolute no.
  • No window, and no bright LEDs (though a neat power LED is fine, just no uber cathodes or anything)
  • Not too big. Needs to hold 3 hard drives, 4 5.25 drives, and thats it.

I have a tacky plasticky case at the moment, with window, cathodes, shiney bits etc. When I watch films, the light from the case annoys me.
I want a less tacky case, but still want it to be something special.

THIS is my favourite case (but way beyond budget), just so you know what I like.

The Lian-Li PC V1000 Plus

So far, I like;

The Lian-Li PC7 Plus

Unfortunately it has an 80mm fan!

The Akasa Zen

Probably my current favourite, though is the plastic a bit tacky?

The Antec Solo

Looks lovely, but I don't know much about it, and it is slightly over budget.

I am willing to go a bit over budget if people think this is worth it.

Sorry for the long post, but theres my thoughts so far!

Obviously open to any other suggestions of other cases! I know there are many many useful threads in case central, and I have been searching, but any links to other threads would really help too.

Particularly looking for info on the Antec Solo.

Cheers! :)

On the OcUK description, it says 1 80mm and 1 120mm?

Plus, I think that case looks a little bit too... boring. I mean, it doesn't look like it would really stand out from a load of off the high street pre-built machines, even if it is a nice case.

EDIT:

pc-7+ amazing looking and yes it has a 80mm fan at the top but you would be pushed to find a case that has a 120mm fan on the top and if you realy don'e want it to be 80mm you can easily cut a little extra out. and there is a larde mesh bit on the side panel and the graphics card area, you could mount another 120mm fan on there with a minor modding. and it would stand out from the others very nice case i got it today and it droped my temps by nearly 10oC.

OK. It definately seems to be better than it looks on the catalogue page, judging by peoples' comments.

Anyone got any info on the Antec Solo?

PC7+ specs say that its a 120mm at the front and a 80mm at the back.
plus space for another 80mm at the top (although it may just be a vent, going off of memory)

Overclockers actually sell the PC7+II, which has 120mm fans front and back.
But its on the site as just a PC7+ as it is cheaper that way

Mmmkay. What's my best bet for finding out what they're going to send me? I've never had to contact OcUK before, my orders have always been straighforward.

Would still like info on the Antec Solo though.

I doubt you can find out before you receive it. All the boxes will be marked as 1x120mm fan and 1x80mm fan, so thats all OCUK can ensure. However, everyone who has bought one for the last year or so has received the +II which has 2x120mm fans. If in the very unlikely situation that you did receive the older version, you could then use the distance selling act to send it back.

Could I? According to the website, I should really "expect" one 80mm and one 120mm.

Im not 100% of the law, but from what I know, its to allow you to inspect the good as if you were in a shop. I doubt there would be too many complaints if you did. And as I say, you would be VERY unlucky to get an old version.

Just send them a webnote asking them what is the likley hood of reciving a PC7 with the two 120mm fans. They may have even got rid of all the older revisions. ANd now may only stock the newer ones.

The Akasa Zen is a really good budget case. The cooling is good and the plastic on the front dosn't look cheap and nasty at all to me. The only problem is the front 120mm fan dosent get much air because there is only a small vent for it to suck air into the case(it's not a major problem though).

I bought the akasa zen because for £32 its a great case, but saying that if your budget is more like £60 then id definately go for the lian li.
