Spec me a Character Progression Game

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines :)

lots of different character types and skills to level up and they really do change the way the game is played.

Well I tried Path of Exile with my brother last night and so far its not too bad. Abit overwelming with all the gems/moves and skill tree.

Atm I have gone Shadow (I think) If you can keep the suggestions going that would be great!

skyrim
guild wars
Torchlight ii
diablo iii
mass effect 1, 2 and 3 (to a degree, you research new weapons and armour, and stuff for your ship, however it is more of an RPG but it does have character progression)
minecraft or terraria?????

I would also say Dark Souls - you can overcome progression with skill, but at the same time progression makes the game a hell of a lot easier even if you don't notice it. Really rewards you for challenging yourself, too.

this aswell, even though it is very damn challenging, it not only develops your character in game once you get the hang of it. It also develops you as a person as i think there are very few games out at the moment that are as difficult as dark souls (in my experience)

Well it looks like I will be going with Dark Souls, its a shame that I have missed out on the sale! I think the biggest reason I am struggling is that I am trying to keep away from WoW and experience some other games.

What are peoples tips/tricks to keep away (other than not subbing)

I haven't played many of the games suggested, but I play the same games as you and I REALLY REALLY enjoyed Fable: The Lost Chapters...

£6.99 on steam, it's a really really good game!

I tried fable 2 and 3 after, but they just weren't anywhere near as good, which made me sad :(.

Hope this helps a little!

I also enjoyed WoW and the whole levelling / armour progression thing.

Games I've really enjoyed during and since for similar reasons:

Fallout 3
Oblivion & Skyrim
Torchlight 1 & 2
Path of Exile
Darksiders 1 & 2 (2 is better)
Bastion
Borderlands 2

I'll give a shout to Lotro, Firefall, and The Secred World since I don't think they have been mentioned so far.

Path of Exile is an excellent game.

If you like distinct visual armour upgrades then Diablo 3, borderlands 2 & firefall will leave you disappointed (same skins pretty much, different stats).

The skyrim & fallout series have great armour progression visually, but lack multi-player - most MMO's out today are pretty poor so that leaves them out of the picture also.

Firefall is a F2P FPS mmo, with skill trees & item upgrades (but no visual progression) - class based & pretty fun for a bash.

I'm also looking for a good co-op game with good character progression - so I feel your pain.
