Hi all,

Just wondering if someone can recommend a Cisco ADSL router with wireless for me please? To be used in an SMB environment of which i've not really got any experience at the moment so if anyone has any favourite/recommended models then that'll be great.

Also needs to support upto a max of 15-20 users.

Cheers,
Andy

Cisco 877W is their basic ADSL2+ SOHO type device with wireless built in, depending on the IOS image you go for prices are around £380 ex VAT.

There is also the newer(?) 520 series stuff which may be of interest.

Is there a particular need for you to use a Cisco bit of kit, as if not you're just paying for the name and features you will have no need for and with that small number of users you can probably get away with just using a consumer type router.

To be honest, Cisco is just personal preference. I'm open to some other suggestions though although this is for a business and not home use.

actually just spotted that Cisco have their own SMB/SOHO range now. Looks to be part of the Linksys range almost and prices are about half that of the 877's.

Well Cisco own Linksys so are sticking a bit of branding on the kit, but it is still Linksys underneath the hood.

Having said that for 20 users, a WRT54GL with tomato on it and use something like a DrayTek Vigor100 to feed it a real world IP could be perfectly neat solution for under £100.

Could even set up OpenVPN for people to connect in with as IIRC that is built into tomato now?

If you have any decent networking knowledge I would look into maybe either a Juniper or even a Mikrotik, personal choice is Juniper.so much easier to config and use and what you can do with JUNOS is fantastic.

we've got some juniper kit already and i love it. Had dismissed it as an option though as I suspected it to be quite expensive...

Do they have a range of kit aimed at the SMB/SOHO market?

Yeah Andy give me a few mins and Ill have a look, I can't remember what their SOHO range is. I use the ISP M and J series.
EDIT: If you went for the netscreen firewall,SSG series Juniper Netscreen NS-5GT-121 Wireless 802.11g NS-5GT

Depending on costs etc the J series (thats prob a bit too high.)

As I said look into the Mikrotik stuff as well, very cheap and some serious protocol and services capable with this stuff.
