Hi there,

Need a new phone. Always been pay as you go before, but now want a contract one for uni.

I like the k800i, seems a nice phone, but open to suggestions of others.

My requirements;

Free (or at least under £30) phone.
£30/month MAX
About 200 texts
About 100 minutes
Need some insurance (student).

Don't mind what network.
Going to phones for you tommorow, can they match prices?
I've seen the 14 month half price offer here.

Any suggestions, people?

Thank you very much in advance!

I've just signed up for a 12 month contract on 02 pay monthly

£19 a month for 50 minutes and 200 texts and got the k800i free.

Have a look on www.o2.co.uk - they also do a tariff for £25 a month (if you choose to go 18month contract you will get a few more minutes and texts than on the 12month contract

Jim :)

Perfect! Any chance of a direct link?

I can't see it... is it a web-only offer?

No they can't match online deals, and my suggestion would be not to enter Phones 4U at all their deals are absolutely rubbish and can always be beaten online, directly with the networks via their own sites (nevermind cashback options imo, more effort than it's worth - you will have enough juggling of debts as it is being a student)

I'd say go online with a network too, you'll always get better deals.
Also, go O2 and you'll get the least amount of branding, they don't brand the outside, and do very little to the software. The Voda, Orange, Tmob and 3 K800is are heavily branded, and their software is buggy. The O2 one is nearly untouched and much more stable.
If it's a choice between the K800i and the N73 it depends what you want more.
K800i has better camera, video playback, music player, stereo bluetooth, better battery, more memory anda faster UI.
N73 has a bigger screen and stereo speakers and is a smartphone, but it is pretty slow compared to the K800i.

I own both, along with many other phones so if you want to know something specific about the phones just ask :)

Cheers!

My reasoning for picking the K800i was that it has an MP3 player and a decent camera. I have a "real" camera that isn't very big, so any camera under 2.5Mp is a waste of time really.

I've heard bad things about the camera cover, though.

EDIT: Will O2 give me the tarriffs they display online in store? Not a special offer of anything, I was just after their 150 mins / 750 texts for £25 with free phone.

i doubt they will. they have their own retail tariffs which they stick too. they might be able to arrange it for you instore over the phone if you ask though

I like the W810i but would need the cheapest possible monthly contract with mainly text usage. Any ideas?

18 month contract with o2 online on their online 50 tarriff - 75 mins, 300 texts for £19 month with free W810i

Both Yes and No.

O2 Retail stores are allowed to perform a % of their business with online tariffs, it really depends who's the manager on the day, and how much they've sold tbh from what I'm aware.

OK - been and got my phone.

For those interested;

I went to Phones 4 U. (I know you said not to, but my mate works there and I was promised a good deal. Thought I'd at least check it out.)

I got the Sony Ericsson k800i, for free.
Contract is £35/month, downgradeable after 9 months.
Includes 500 minutes to any network, any time, and 500 texts.
Also got free insurance for a month...
AND! £70 cash in hand!

So I walked out of the shop £70 richer and with a £400 for free.

Not the best deal you've ever heard of before, I'm sure, but I got it done as a one-off, as the manager was in a good mood and my mate asked nicely.

Cheers for the advice, guys.

Oh and I also tried O2. They do match the online deals, but they have to send you the phone in the post. Basically all they do is run the online deal through for you - it's a bit quicker and easier, but you don't get the phone there and then.
