Spec me a CPU :)

Hey all

Finaly gonna be changing from Socket A.

I know people are going to tell me to wait until Conroe etc but i wont have any money then and i desperatly need the upgrade to hold me over for now

I've figured that my current CPU + Mobo + Fan should fetch approx £100, and i'm selling my Socket A mobo and fan on the MM so keep your eyes open.

Basically i've got £130 MAX to spend on a Retail CPU, or an Oem and a 3rd party cooler. Must be S939 as i've already got the motherboard

Any recomendations?

I'd get the 3700+

Fast CPU, 1MB of L2 cache, cheap and a fearsome overclocker

Is that the Retail mate? I saw the oem on this week only, £117 i think..

Looking at the price difference I'd go for the OEM 3700+ and then get the Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU cooler. That comes to £135 unfortunately though:

If you can't stretch the extra £5 then I'd look at getting the Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra CPU Cooler. This is still a good cooler and if you're running the CPU at stock or with a light overclock it's great. It'll fit even though it says Socket 754
