Are people really doing this these days?
Has everything got to be on camera so nobody can file a personal injury claim against you?
I don't know if 'everyone' is doing this, however, the number of people I know that are getting 'knock for knock' claims is worrying. I don't know the full implications of this but I hazard a guess that everyone concerned ends up paying their full excess. It makes my blood boil when I hear of people that are essentially NOT at fault being roped into such a claim due to lack of evidence or conflicting accounts as to what actually happened.
I would like to at least have a chance to provide evidence that will go in my favor, rather than some insurance investigator who can't be arsed to do their job properly, simply 'rubber stamp' it as a 'knock for knock'.
I recently had a women who came into the news agents while I was paying at the till saying "I don't just want to drive off as I did just nudge your car, I don't want anyone saying I just drove off..." So we walk outside and I can clearly see the marks from her 4X4 rubbing down the car and cracking the lens-light... she immediately says "I didn't do that damage". Now this proves that a camera won't help you in all circumstances and indeed it didn't help in this one. The lack of 'proof' ended in a stalemate situation and as it was a company car I didn't really worry about it.
I just shudder to think the same happened to my car, however, I want to minimise the chance of it happening. Insurance investigators really don't put any effort into minor incidents where people arn't injured significantly, therefore its worth having anything that will help you prove your case.
We live in a world where many people think its simply a fact of life to lie and cheat the system for their own benefit, for the majority, that is the status quo - and its a sickness that needs to be combated.
