Hi All

Looking for a decent pump/foot pump for my racing bike....i have a hand held one but it doesnt seem to work too well...neighbour has a decent old school foot pump but i dont want to keep asking to borrow it.

Not too expensive please but a decent sturdy one

Many Thanks

Track pump is the way forward.
The gauges on the cheaper ones are a bit hit and miss, I've got a £9.99 track pump and tje guage doesn't work, but the pump itself is great.
But I've also got a topeak d2 digital guage which is an awesome tool.

i find when family visit can never find a decent pump that does car type valves also , end up in padstow with a flat and a crappy pump where the little rubber seal has disintegrated , had lidl and ebay ones but never found a reliable one

how do you guys deal with punctures without a pump ?

At the risk of cursing myself - I'm actually yet to have a puncture since switching to Gatorskin tyres. But even before that I had only had 2 - a pinch flat a mile from home, and a tyre deformation that was still rideable. I only do ~1000 miles/year at a guess though.

If I was going on any kind of long distance or event, then I would get a CO2 inflator or even a pump/co2 combo such as:

I also recommend what frenchtart said, awesome pumps for getting loads of pressure in those tires.

Not sure I am a tart or french! :)

Any specific reason for a foot pump? For bikes a track pump is generally a better option, much easier (especially for higher road bike tyre pressures)

e.g. something like:

or if you want to pop into your local halfords:

(I have had one of those for nearly 5 years with no issues - seems very well made)

Sorry all this is what i meant...basically i have a little hand held one i bought with the bike which was £30 through the cycle to work scheme...it has a changeable valve option but for the life of me, i cant get it to pump up my road bike tyre...they have different valves dont they? (see how clueless i am :-()

This is the one I have now. Unsure on quality of the lifeline so I cannot comment on it. I had a cheap track pump before the Joe Blow and at high pressure the handle wasn't sturdy enough and the pump nowhere near as smooth as the one I have now.

I have a metal bodied mini pump I carry around to sort punctures. I can usually get decent PSI into a tyre with that, just an extra workout :D

It might be that to change between valve types, you need to unscrew and reverse the little rubber /plastic assembly inside the pump head.

I took the 'buy cheap buy twice' approach and got an SKS Rennkompressor.

It's made of steel and cast iron and every component is available as a spare. Had it many years and expect it to last pretty much indefinitely. Got nothing to compare the pressure gauge against but it seems fine.
