Hey ,

Just interested in buying a camera... Nothing really professional.. but still something that is good enough to take good quality pictures. I love taking the occasional picture but i only have a k800 phone to take them with so it's just not quite the same.

Anyway my budget is about 200-250... so any nudges in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I got there first :P

The best Ixus you can afford (850is ?) or a Fuji F30/31 - leaves money for case/batteries/charger/memory cards

:D

The f31 looks good, what about the canon powershots... ?
To be honest I have used neither the Ixus nor the Fuji, I simply know them from reputation - many people outside OcUK have recommended the same choices.

I have however used a Canon powershot A70 for about 3 years and have loved it! Certainly not as compact at the other choices, but does give you a choice of manual controls for "proper" camera use, and produces some very nice pictures.

Identitfy what your needs/budget are and go from there - remember to reserve a little £££ for spare batteries/case/memory stick.

I main requirement really is portability... so a more compact option would be ideal...

but i wouldnt go for compact over image quality though... The Ixus has been recommended to me, but not the 900...

The powershot is max of my budget which is 200-250... id prefer obviously 200 then the extra 50 on as you say spare accesories.. maybe another mem card

I can get a Canon Powershot A640 for £199...

or £230 with a 1gb mem card...Think i'm going to go for that... I've read a few reviews and it seems to be highly regarded...

Awesome... 2Gb would be perfect.

Yeh ill just get the camera for 199...

Any specific carry cases about? or will any do...?

I will have 50 spare for mem and case..

See edited post above for memory retailer.... :)

Any case will do generally, wait until you have the camera, spare memory cards/batteries though, means you can pick a case which can comfortably carry the lot.

I've got a small Lowepro case for my A70/2 memory cards/4xAA batteries, can't remember the name though

No idea on the cams tbh but a SanDisk Extreme III SD Card 2GB can be had for £17.99 inc delivery (not from the ripoffbay).
