Spec me a dog....

Why do you want dogs?

Personally unless thye are guard dogs and not pets I see no point in getting a dog and keeping it in a kennel outdoors. Dogs crave companionship and as the alpha male you need to be with them.

My personal preference is Springers but ive had them all my life :)

Staffy, there is so many of them in rescues needing homes. You can pretty much find any age of dog if that's a big factor to you. They are happy, bouncy dogs but like any dog need an alpha so they don't get out of hand.

Also, don't really see the point in getting a companion dog if they will be outside all the time and if it's only when you're at work they really shouldn't be alone for hours on end.

How are collies if you're out of the house all day in the week working?

Depends how long you work for really. We left ours in a kennel outside for maybe the first year when everyone was either at work or school, she was fine. That was probably eight until three/four? It wouldn't really be proper to leave them on their own for much over eight hours, whatever the breed.

And at least with a collie when they're left outside they'll sleep or dig or whatever to please themselves, rather than a tiny dog like a terrier that will yap away constantly and annoy all the neighbors :p

I'd love a collie but I'm generally out of the house for about 11 hours a day so it wouldn't really be fair on the dog if I had one. I'd like a cat too and as I've split up with my gf it means I can get one now as she was massively allergic to them and stopping me getting one!

They'll be fine, dogs love being left alone all day . . . . . . . . . oh wait!!

Get a CAT!

There is only one answer to this.

TIGERDOG

Another vote for staffies. They are good company, loving and fun dogs to have around the house. I actually knew someone who had a staffie and a retriever. They got on like house on fire. As long as they are introduced fairly young, they will be fine. Plus, the timid retriever will have a top notch bodyguard when out on walks as staffs are very protective.

Whatever you decide on please take a rescue...there are so many great dogs needing homes just stuck in kennels just waiting for a good owner.

And another vote for a staffie too

Get a little staffy. They can be such lovely dogs, my uncle has one that is soft as a pudding, and rescue centres are just FULL of them because stupid little chavs buy then as status dogs then don't want them.

my gf has a cavachon and its the cutest, most energetic dog ive ever met (but it'll calm down when you want her too, obediant)

they also dont shed their hair

Get a mongrel from the rescue center. My old dog cost a fiver and was a great little guy until we had to put him down at 15. There was a bit of collie in him, some german shephard, and god knows what else. As sharp as a button and great natured.
