Spec me a DOWNGRADE...

Hi folks,

Does it make sense to sell some parts, to downgrade, to make money?

Current system in sig,

I was thinking if I sold my

7900GTX (lets argue I could get £220 for it)
Raptor 150 (lets argue I could get £140 for it)
Thermaltake Armor case (too big for my room now) (Say £70 for it)

I could make about £100-150 PROFIT, after buying replacements?

I really want to pay my CC as fast as possible basically.

Is it worth doing that?

The way PC stuff depreciates you may be better off keeping it and looking for other areas to get money back

yes that is a big IF you sell it for that much, IE a friend who is too lazy to check retail prices on the net/second hand prices on ebay, oh the only reason i went for that case is because it has a window incase you have any sparkly things inside you want to show off still :]

You would be exceedingly lucky to get anywhere near those prices unless like said it is to someone who knows nothing about PC parts prices. The 7900GTX or equivalent goes for that sort of money new and the general rule is you knock anywhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of the price off for secondhand. Same for the Raptor and I don't have a clue about the case. I'd be looking at other ways to make back the money I think

£100 for your graphics card
£60 for your raptor
£60 for your case

and you could make a profit if u decide to buy a £20 case a 40 quid hard drive and a £20 graphics card, but the loss in performance would be substantial. your better off getting a job

I thought it was 1/2 the price?

Those prices are completely unrealistic, completely off the mark.

LOL! @ £60 for the raptor!!! It costs £150 new, is 2 months old, and would DEFINATELY get over £100 for. It has a 5 yr warranty!

Look at the bay and see how much they sell for, whether its 'a person who doesnt have a clue about what things are worth' or not, they still SELL for that price on there.

Id say between £180 and £200 for the GTX and prob £100 for the raptor. Not sure about the case.

Get another credit card that gives you 0% for 9-12 months

Warranty doesnt carry over when you sell the item (I think thats right anyway). I think your prices are a bit high but would be best to compare prices on 2nd hand goods first.

Its still second hand and has been used, imo some of the estimates are a little low but yours are to high.
GTX id say between 150-200 ( i saw an x1800xt powercolour bought for £235 new sold 150 on ebay)
Raptor a good 80quid i would pay 80-100 for it
Case i dont think you would get too much for a case. its an armour and these arent that much now (well if you dont buy from OC'ers) id say you would get 50 for case perhaps lower.

Just my thoughts but a 2nd hand case isnt going to go for much imo, still good luck with it

He should get atleast £200 easy.

a lot are selling for £230-£250 easy so don't know what your on about there.

WHAT'S YOUR CREDIT CARD BALANCE?

^ Can't believe nobody's asked that yet.

Barclays, MBNA, Virgin etc all do good 2% deals on balance transfers. Should only work out to be around twenty quid and you can put interest on hold for 6 months. I sincerely suggest you do not sell as you will just lose further. The other option is get another job e.g. weekends or evenings.

This is where you all get shocked...

My CC balance will be about £1400 once I've paid a chunk of it off (have money ready for that).

Its 0% still until next April, I just dont like having a balance, stupid hey!

When its under £1000 I always feel a lot better!

PS> My friend sold his Armor case for £80 on the bay, and his x1900xtx for £220. Recently.

Honestly man, I've been in the same situation many a time, and whenever I've sold anything I always regret it.

If you already have a job its much better to just watch your spending for a few weeks/months and save up, altho I know all too well this is easier said than done.

I've been buying and selling on a well known auction site for a long time, and altho it might be possible to get someone willing to pay the prices your looking for, you will not find a quick sale. Quick sale = cheap price. So by the time you did you'd be as well keeping your kit and earning the money.

Depends on what you are selling and who you are selling to, generally on here you are looking at 2/3 of the price on here and that is pretty decent. If you can sell it for more than anyone here is recommending then good for you, go for it but at the moment the prices that I am suggesting seem realistic to me
