Spec me...a drill

Good thread, I was unscrewing part of a wendy house that I inherited in my garden with my first house and wishing I had a cordless drill!

Seriously Nightglow, Man of Honour 2013, if you carry on like this, you'll get my vote.

Well decision made. :) Went with the Anniversary edition of the Makita. Found it on Amazon for £139 so only a tenner dearer than the 2 x 1.3Ah version. Thinking about the Anniversary edition duo kit too for the smaller jobs. Nice little kit with superb reviews but sadly didn't have hammer action.

Better to have 2 batteries than just the one. Although saying that, the beauty of LI-ION bats is that you can stick them on charge whenever you're not using the drill to keep it topped up. Rather than wait for the battery to fully deplete.

That Makita looks pretty good. It's a shame Makita seem to gear their cheaper drills a bit on the slow side, (400rpm and 1500rpm). Bit slow for driving on the first speed and the second speed is a bit slow for drilling. It should be fine for DIY though, but I tend to drive screws at 1700rpm :D.

I bought it too from Tool station in March.

I got the one with the aluminium case also(no bits though so bought a Bosch bit pack) but there is a silver/grey plastic case version that has a selection of bits.

Sexiest drill around lol

Panasonic drills are only slightly better than the Makita, but cost at least £100 more and take 60 mins to charge a battery vs 22 mins for Makita iirc (* 18v li-ion).

I use mine pretty much everyday, the quick charge is a huge bonus for trade use.

+1 brilliant value for money

MatteH: They don't mention what's included in the box, but a quick google, finds this MAKITA 2470T.

And this.

There are several offers going around, based around two drills, some come with extras, others don't, so check what you are getting, they all have reverse.

All three drills i've mentioned are capable of chasing for conduit run, or removing tiles, drilling a 22mm hole through blockwork, breaking up the odd bit of concrete, & will cope with a 40mm core drill for waste pipe, (manual quotes 54mm core maximum).
If the drills are registered, then you get a 3 year warranty.

I went into homebase yesterday and saw the model above mine, 750w I think, on offer plus the 20% off. That would have made it £60 with a more extensive drill set. Doh!

Have you found the drill fit for purpose? Not sure if I should shell out for the extra 100w.

If you used the 600w & 700w drills in a side by side comparsion I doubt you could tell the difference.

What sort of work you intend using it for, usual diy work or something slightly more demanding.

Need to hang up a few things for now. I suppose whatever the average brick household requires..
