Hello gents,

My Fiesta (mk7 1.6 petrol Titanium) recently turned 10 years old, I've owned it for over 4 and Im getting the itch to change it up for something else. Otherwise no real reason to switch it it beyond being a bit cramped for longer journeys being a 6ft 2 bulky guy.
Realising its still worth roughly £3k it would be easier to buy something decent/newer now than if it were much lower in value.

My must have's would be:

  • Reliable/economical etc
  • Bit more roomy than a Fiesta
  • Good spec (similar to current Titanium spec)
  • 5 doors
  • Petrol (I do roughly 10-12k miles a year)
  • Slightly more boot space (I do a lot of festivals)

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks all.

Some form of focus would be the obvious choice i would have thought? same basic cockpit layout and controls but more space. ??

Focus or Cee'd (from circa 2013 on). The Kia is a nicer car inside with nav unless you buy a facelift Focus, drives as well in cooking form too tbh

So given your requirements your looking at a Focus, Mazda 3 or a Civic IMHO (with the later too a little bit questionable on the ol'fuel). All of them will feel more spacious that the Fiesta, and should be reliable and decent speced for say a 2013/14 model. The similar aged Kia Cee'ds aren't great IMHO.... you might be better sticking with the Fiesta for a year or two more and upping the budget if you want a significantly better car.

Can't go along with that, they're very much equivalent to the Focus at this sort of age and price point.

In fact they're a nicer car at the lower trim levels as they don't have the garish seats of a base focus or overdone dash.

They drive well enough too.

The Octavia may be a decent option but mine was the least reliable car I've owned in approximately ten years which puts me off recommending anything with a similarly aged tsi (though happy to admit that's irrational)

Civic is a good car but not sure the money buys the right age really, early iteration of the revised car that again comes with some really questionable trim especially lower down the range. Having said that I've liked all of mine

Couldn't disagree with you more, had a test drive on the weekend and it's very similar to my Focus.

Parents own a 2013 Cee'd it runs great and is comfy. The only gripe with theirs is no satnav but isn't needed as it's main use is commuting 26 miles on a motorway.

It hasn't had anything major go wrong with it. The only thing that has gone wrong with it was that its blown one of the 'turning lights' which was easily replaced under Kia Warranty.

Also, servicing is not badly priced even at Snows main dealer.

Megane RS, circa 2012, probably around £5k

Or hunt around and get a S/H GT86, although I think that 7.5k is a little lean for that still.
