Just got myself a saitek x52 off the auction place as i thought id give fsx a blast.

Are there any good flight combat games i should be aware of? I have no idea as im a FPS guy. Black Shark / Lock on flaming cliffs? looks very interesting but are there any otheres???

For world war 2 era you cant beat IL-2 Sturmovik (1946 is the newest compilation/gold pack I believe) getting a little old now but as far as I know it's still one of the best.

why is there no arcade top gun style air fighters online multiplayer ? i would be there all time shame really as most are pure nerd white coat flying jumbo jet shizzle

Choices are...

WW1 = Rise of Flight
WW2 = Wings of Prey or IL2 1946
Vietnam = Strike Fighters 2
Modern (planes) Lock On + Flaming Cliffs 2 addon (Falcon 4 if you are feeling masochistic)
Modern (Helicopters) = DCS Black Shark (MP compatible with Lock ON FC2)
Modern (ADD sufferers) = HAWX
Civilian = FSX or X-plane

Have a read around www.simhq.com to see it there is anything else you might like.

Edit:- Upcoming.........
WW2 = Storm of War:- Battle of Britain
Modern (Planes) = DCS:- Warthog (A-10C)
Modern (arcade) = HAWX2
Modern (Falklands) = Jet Thunder

Isn't Tom Clancy's HAWX like that? I think it has multiplayer deathmatch anyway. Been meaning to try it ever since it came out but never got round to it.

HAWX 2 is in development though so may as well wait for that now

Just note Hawx is more a joypad rather than a joystick game and if I'm honest not very good one either, but then I only tried the demo.

Whats multiplayer like with wings of prey and also rise of flight?

storm of war should be good.

Anyone fancy some il2 1946 coop or someting? or fsx although thats a bit limited, still fun to be had.

I agree with TEFAL Wings of prey, easily the best looking flight sim ever released, and gives great visual vs hardware performance.

You can play the game in acrade-sim mode, theres a co-op dlc just released thats pretty cheap and dedicated servers are being worked on. The game also as a very good single player mode with campaign and then when you finish that single battle mode as lots of different levels for you to try.

great game imo I use a siatek cyborg evo to play it, but any decentjoystick with force feedback will do the job.

Flight Sim X is great if your machine can run it - there are numerous fsx.cfg tweaks that you will need in order to get smooth performance though. There have been some fixes recently around shader mods which have improved my FSX experience no end.

Flightsim.com will get you lots of great free addons and utilities.

I haven't played many combat sims but I think storm of war will be a classic.

Wings of Prey might be very pretty but as a game with any depth it falls very short, as a sim even further

I have Flight Sim X. could never get it smooth. was thinking of installing it on my newer system that uses i7, 5970 + 5870. don't think this game supports xfire? what's with this shader mods mate ? does this give better performance then. mine used to stutter when panning left to right up and down

What pc setup you got ? and what mods are you using.

Any tips on what you have done to make it look nicer? and what ingame settings you used

if i remember, i couldn't get v.sync to work on my old ati card. i was also thinking of getting the trackir 5.

I'd have to agree, but as a starter sim it might just be the ticket. The OP can then move on to the less arcade sims.
