Dont laugh :D

But the last game i played on a pc was soldier of fortune about 10 years ago and things have moved on since then :p

Now i know my graphics card is only really suitable for HTPC and not the latest games but i fancy a dabble and just wondering what games from the last couple of years i should be able to play on windows 7 pro ???

Built a new computer last week and heres my spec:

Ivybridge i5 3570k
Enough ram to sink a ship
ATI 6450 1GB

Also am i best buying secondhand ?? or are older games cheap enough on steam?? as i have never been on the steam website and cant currently as im at work.

I like shooters and age of empires, settlers type of games

Thanks Mark

I would suggest trying some of the free games on steam if you want cheap, like age of empires online and team fortress 2. I would think your card could run a lot more than you think, maybe not the latest games with all bells and whistles, but anything for a few years ago no problems.
You can never go wrong with company of heroes anthology anyway :)

You might actually be better throwing off the 6450 in the bin and using the onboard HD4000 TBH.

Source engine games will work fine, Mass Effects, Batmans and Assasins Creeds also.

Edit: Forget might, the HD4000 is a better GPU than the 6450.

Thanks for all the great info

Next time im at home i will have a look round steam and check ou tthe free games

I dont know the spec of my gigabyte boards hd4000 but i thought my 6450 would surely be better specced????

thanks again

Give Limbo a try. Not graphically demanding but looks great, very atmospheric and has satisfying gameplay. Cheap too. Can't wait for the sequel.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i will check them all out

If i do get into it, i may buy a proper graphics card.

So go on then, spec me a graphics card, im never gonna pay £400 but £200 - £250 would be ok

I have the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H Intel Z77 if that makes a difference

ATI or NVidia??

What make of card??

Looking at benchmarks there are some games where the 6450 is faster, e.g. Diablo3. Probably some sort of driver issue - the HD4000 may be better hardware but I'd imagine you'd get less hassle from the AMD.
