I would but no idea on overclocking it/what the safety limit is before I blow the CPU

Overclocking is easy these days, and you can get loads of help on here. There's no real problem with safety, if you go too high the PC won't start up and will reset itself to default clocks.

I got my 4770K to 4.5GHz by changing about two settings.

You're very unlikely to do that.

Intel build special safeguards into these CPUs to stop them 'blowing up'. For example, the CPU automatically throttles itself if its getting too hot. In addition, most new motherboards will not allow the system to even start if they detect that you may 'blow up' the system.

The CPU will last less time, but it really is minimal.

Overclocking is analogous to tuning up a car engine, you get better performance. To blow your cpu up, you'd really really have to work at it.

The Gigabyte Z87X-OC is cheaper and just as good a clocker, the ASUS board doesn't really come into its own unless your going to go sub zero cooling.

The M4 is kinda old hat and their are better SSD's on the market now for the same kinda money like the Samsung 840 EVO drives.

We're have to ask 8Pack that one at much higher Overclocks on that board you will start to struggle to get it stable due the phases just have nothing more to give, the OC board has more phases and better VRM power delivery (that said your not likely going to do it on air).

but anyway that is the board I specced in my build
