There are some very good headsets without a mic, such as the HD555s. I'd recommend trying to get your hands on a clip on mic, rather than a desktop mic if you do go down that route.

Decided to go for the Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset eventually.
After reading some reviews I guess it will be just fine for my needs.
Thing is, should I go for the USB (More expensive) edition, or the normal one? i have a standard built-in audio card for that matter.

You can get the fatality ones at the moment for about £17, i got a pair a few weeks back.
