Spec me a gaming laptop

Vita, did you buy from the dell outlet or another vendor on the bay?. How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

I paid £1.3k from a vendor on eBay who sells these. I think he gets them from the outlet to sell on. My box was fully sealed and hadn't been opened at all. He's been ok and guided me through the process of contacting dell etc

Sounds like the same seller I had, 37k feedback.

Update: I have been emailed by the customer rep from Alienware regarding the update on my repair. Undortanetly they do not have the motherboard in stock. With no estimated date of restock I will be waiting a while. I have emailed back saying I'm unhappy so will await the response they give back.

I'd start laying it on thick how you need this laptop for work etc, ask them perhaps if there is a replacement system available... (hopefully with higher specs)

I did give a stern reply. Although I was told it won't take long. If nothing has happened by next week I'll escalate it. I find it hard to believe that the whole of dell does not have a spare motherboard for my system.

Update: After a 2 week wait due to dell not having my motherboard, I now have a working machine. Engineer came today and installed the board, all went smoothly. I will not be updating the BIOS, his comment on it was that it's rare for the motherboard to die during a BIOS update, although with dell not having any in stock it does beg the question why. Funny thing is, now in the BIOS my machine is showing as Alienware 17R4 lol. Strange, but it will have to do. I will probably do a small review about the machine later on. So far impressions are that it's good.

Glad to hear Dell came out in the end and replaced the board after your ordeal with them, good result all round by the sound of it.

I took delivery of my "manufacturer refurbished" XPS 15 9560 today that I purchased from the same seller you got your Alienware from on the Bay by the sound of it, I've also purchased from them in the past without any issues. (The MSI GS63VR went back last week as I couldn't get used to the screen, mediocre at best for gaming - somewhat disappointing really).

The only thing I came across after setting it all up was that the service tag on the laptop itself isn't recognised according to Dell. I emailed the main guy who I liaised with originally when enquiring about the laptop, to which he replied straight away about that it's likely the service tag hadn't been reset with Dell to put it back to default 12 months full warranty - he also CC'd me in on an email he sent to a contact he deals with at Dell to sort this and they acknowledged the matter right away.

Despite the laptop is manufacturer refurbished and is still the same as the ones you get through Dell's official outlet, bar one or two very minor marks on the lid itself it can still be passed as brand new - so far I am very impressed with it.

Enjoy your new Alienware mate.

Liam.

I just received the laptop (from a different vendor on ebay). He was the only one offering the Spec I listed above with 3yr warranty. Thought feedback was about 2k compared to the 37k mentioned, I felt more confident after speaking to him a no of times to narrow down to the specs I am after.

It looks mint.
But it is soooo heavy!

Now I have to decide between oculus rift and vive which might not be so easy
