Spec me a gaming mouse please.

My upgrade addiction got the best of me and I decided the least professional piece of hardware attached to my computer is my mouse.

What I dislike about my current mouse:
- If my hand gets sweaty after long gaming sessions it starts "braking", moving slower over certain spots.

- If I move my mouse over the stupidly positioned tiny edge on my desk, the mouse stops moving / jitters at that place.

- Occasionally, for no apparent reason at all, my mouse moves faster on some parts of the table and slower on other parts, which is really awful for mouse-based games like Audiosurf, flashgames, FPS games etc. I think this problem is due to the fact that my table is polished to a mirror finish due to years upon years of mouse wear and tear.

My current mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse, which runs on 2 AA batteries that last impressively long, usually up to 18 months.

What I'm looking for in my new mouse:

- Wireless

- Gaming-oriented mice, perhaps with some extra buttons wouldn't hurt. (I don't need them now but I can very easily see, for example, hotkeying my ASMD/Flak switch on a side button, or my push to talk key on it).

- Laser mice would be preferential as from what I know, laser mice perform better on surfaces where optical mice fail.

- Finally, the battery should last a decent while. Would be best if the mouse has a rechargeable pack, but these should last at least a while. Periods of usage longer than 40 hours are not uncommon, I'd be happy with several months at least without having to recharge, the least I'd accept is weekly.

Is this even possible (Especially considering the last)? Or should I make a compromise and go for a good wired mouse instead.

Oh and, budget is not an issue as I'm ready to spend a lot on components I don't upgrade often (monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard).

Not reading all of that (lol sorry) but I recommend the new mx performance.

Its great if you get sweaty hands during intense gameplay sessions.

I use a Razer Lachesis which I've had for about 10 months and its worked flawlessly so far and is excellent for gaming although it isn't wireless, which is better in my opinion. Shame my Lycosa keyboard isnt so reliable :p

+1 loving my Lachesis

Thanks for all the replies!

I'll go with wired then, (unless I find a good wireless mouse), it's just that I've always been bothered by not being able to move my mouse downwards properly because of the cable friction. I guess that can easily be solved by taping the cable to the table though. (Woah rhyme)

I've never really liked the looks and feel of the MX518 (my cousin used to have one), so I'm disinclined against it. I'm liking the MX Performance and the Logitech G500, though leaning heavily towards the G500.

How does the G500 compare to the G9x, also how do either compare to the MX Performance? I like all three, but is there anything somebody could tell me from experience with either that might sway my decision?

Thanks again for all the replies, this is really making it easier for me.

Edit: Out of interest I went ahead and weighed my current mouse (with batteries). 132g..

Ha, looks interesting!

Only problem is I wouldn't have any space to put it.. I already keep on knocking off my right speaker when I bump against it while gaming. :(

Don't worry though, taping it should be fine. ;)

Edit: Oh wow, I *just* realized that the G9x doesn't have extra buttons? Hmm...

If only it weren't godawful chrome look.
Can I get an MX518 with red LED lighting? D:

I'm still shifting heavily between the G500 and G9x, probably going to buy the G500 after all because of the extra gaming features / buttons it offers, even though the G9x has that sexy lighting.
Then there's the price..

I'll see if I can go out to my nearest hardware store and get a test of the feel there before ordering. :3

Oh wait, of course the G9x has macros and side buttons. I simply didn't see them.

Well, I think I'll get the G9x then. Thanks for all the replies, definitely helped push me in the right direction (wasn't sure as to what company makes the good gaming mice, but once again it's Logitech - just like their gaming keyboards..)

Can't wait to order. :3
