Spec me a gaming rig for £800-850 please!

Heh. Is there that much difference between the 670 and the 7950 in terms of draw? (Genuine question, I've been out of the hardware scene for like 5 years)

Then get a new PSU.

Stock speed 7950 vs GTX670 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/550?vs=598

OK, so looking at that:

1) Power consumption differences are inconclusive. In fact, 7950 consumes more in their game example (Metro). Very similar at idle.
2) Frame rates are way better for the 670 at my kind of resolution for all the games.
3) 7950 performs as well/better in synthetic benchmarks.

Seems pretty conclusive in favour of the 670, no?

The main reason you would go the 7950 other than the facy its cheaper is how easy it is to double its overclock. Giving it much more potential than the 670.

If it was my money and my upgrade criteria was when I'm unable to play the latest games at all, I would get a 7850 instead of a 7950, and upgrade sooner. That way I would always get good performance at medium to high settings, rather than really good performance for a few years, but worse performance for some time before I upgraded.
If you don't need the newest games on max settings, with high fps, then I think its better to spend less now but upgrade sooner.
Anyway that's just my opinion, its your money at the end of the day.

OK then! Will book towards the end of the week. I know I might miss out on the current week's deals but there will be something else next week :)

Thanks very much everyone, much appreciated.
