Spec me a GFX!

Hi,

I have been reading this forum for the past week and I still can't decide which graphics card to get for my new build.

core i7 920 @ 2.66 ghz
Gigabyte UD5
6gb Corsair Dominator RAM
Corsair HX 850W PSU
Antec 1200 case

I WON'T overclock until next year (want to run it as stock for a while)...
Next year I will probably overclock it to 3.8/4 ghz

Now, what graphics card should I get?

I always went with nvidia, but I want to try ATI 5800 series since they have DX11 support.

I will use the pc for:
- gaming (not hardcore, but want to play at max settings games like crysis, cod6, far cry 2, etc)
- Work - programming, cs4 (photoshop and such)
- general use - office, browsing, etc

So which one of the 5800 series radeon ATI do you recommend?
The 5850 or the 5870?

again it reallllly depends on how much cash your willing to spend, if tis 200 get the 5850, if 300 get the 5870, give us your allowance and well talk

I have the budget for a 5870... so it's not about cash for me...

It's about if it is worth it to buy the 5870 and if I will use it's full potential considering what I need the pc for.

Btw forgot to say...

The max resolution I'll be playing on will be on a 24" monitor 1920x1080 (full HD)

The 5850 will give you 90%+ of the performance of the 5870 for £100 less if overclocked but if money is not really an issue, I'd go with the 5870, you'll probably just wish you had if you stick to the 5850.

ye if your able to geta 5870 then go for it, unles u wanna see what nvidia can bring to the table but thatl be some time i believe. remember the 5870 is still on release date drivers so theyl only get better!

Decided to go for the 5870 since I have the money...

Now, which brand do I get?

leaning towards sapphire... but Gigabyte has 3 years warranty not 2...

Also I found the XFX one with lifetime manufacturer warranty from the US... why isn't OcUK lifetime warranty?

Crysis on Max Settings is pretty much as hardcore you can get in regards to gaming graphics requirements.

Whichever your budget permits, If you dont plan on upgrading for 3-4 years get a 5870, If you plan on an upgrade in 2-3 years get a 5850.

Right now they are listed as "pre order"

And if I order now... when will I get it?
