Hey guys

As title I have an old white MacBook core 2 duo and want to increase the storage space

Can someone please spec me the largest drive that will fit, I've read that some of the larger capacity drives will not fit.

Cheers

what size HDD do you have atm?

my experience with 2.5 hard drives is that generally unless you go bigger than 640GB you wont have a problem. I think its something to do with how many platters are used which leads to an increased thickness by a few mm.

SO that said It depends how big you really want to go. I cant comment on the exact fit your laptop, but this drive

although its only 5400rpm its probably the same speed you have now is 640GB in capacity and standard 2.5" size :) I popped on of these in my Acer Revo (I use as a media centre) and it fits and works superb :)

I presume this not fitting business is to do with height, 9.5mm or 12.5mm, so stick with the smaller and you should be fine. If its height or width i don't know. Measure what you currently have or check your products specification sheet.

Western Digital Scorpio Blacks or the Seagate Momentus have the proper 7200 spin speed and are 9.5mm so well worth a punt imo. Can't do any linkies because OcUK foolishly don't seem to stock them :p

And while you are at it do what i did, replace what you have with a low capacity SSD for system install, applications etc, then rip out the disk drive and chuck in an optibay-style adapter with the largest 2.5" spinning disk you can afford :)

edit: The Seagate Momentus XT looks pretty hot if you don't want to lose the disk drive. 500GB solid state hybrid http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-233-SE&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=1894

Thanks for the help guys, and yes it is supposedly height issue (9.5 vs 12.5)

I like the look of that hybrid drive but will it really offer a noticeable improvement over the standard hdd listed in the post above it?

Cheers
