Hey all. Hope everyone had a good Xmas and is well.

Ok, I have started my new build and I am going to use my Samsung 840 Pro 256GB as a boot drive and for a few apps.

I am thinking of getting a mechanical drive to go with it that will be used for all my media etc.

Size wise, I think 2TB will be enough as a minimum but not sure if I would be better getting a 3TB. I would appreciate an opinion on this.

I was looking at this drive but in the review section it mentions the drive making funny sounds when it is seeking. Perhaps this is normal.

Currently (old system) I have a Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB and it is rather slow. I don't think swapping this over to my new build would be a good idea.

Do you agree?

Thanks

What's your opinion on the "clicking" sounds on the Segate Wazza whilst it's seeking?

Has me a tad concerned as a few people have mentioned that it sounds very much like an edge of fail noise or when a drive is about to give up the ghost.

This is slightly off putting although I see the price is good as well as being on offer.

idk,to be honest,i pref samsung but they dont make hdd's anymore, the samsung f4 2tb is a good reliable hdd

last seagate i used was 5 years ago,it made a lot of noise but still works fine, idk what the newer drives are like

I just got two 256GB 840 Pro's for RAID. **** me they're fast. Over a GB sustained read/write speeds! You'll be happy with yours.

As for the HDD, i'd recommend a 4TB Hitachi Deskstar (model no. HDS724040ALE640). Mine is very quiet and as far as HDD's go it's a decent performer. No complaints.
