In my experience it's more the £200-£250 range where chairs start to get reasonable if you are sat in them all day.
This to be honest.

The best two chairs I've ever had are my current Noble chair, and the Klappe I got from Ikea ~20 years ago (which cost something like £450 back then).
The sub £100 chairs invariably use either thin metal for the back support, or the fixed plastic arms (which then have a habit of cracking if you recline in them). the Noble chairs (like the Klappe) have a good thick metal structure and arms that form no part of the base structure and are fully adjustable (it took me about a week of experimentation to work out the full range of adjustment, and get it just right).
The other thing is that most of the cheaper chairs stint on the padding and have little or no upper back/neck/head support.

However at 15 stone a bariatric chair certainly isn't needed :)
IIRC the Noble Hero goes to 20 stone, and the Epic about 18 as their official limits.

This must be the Kashmir. It's s supremely comfortable chair, with a really cosy microfibre finish - but it's not good quality at all. All the structural components are what you find on the £50 rubbish ones.

I gave up on that type of chair a while back and got a Noble Hero.

Another +1 for the noblechairs Hero. Im a bit of a resident wide and heavy boy, much more so than the OP, i've found that the last month with the Hero to be the comfiest i've had in any chair so far. I've gone from a chair which near on crippled me daily to something i can sit in for 10 hours a day working and it feels like i havent been sat down.

You're 15 stone not 30 stone, you don't need some kind of specialist heavy duty fat guy chair, you just need a chair. :p

Is it a Staples Kashmir you currently have?

I know all about bariatric patients but my reference is if they are strong enough for them then my weight shouldn't bother a chair like that.

Yes the Kashmir, I've had 3 in at least 10 years.

I've had one for the last 4 years, its very creaky, the locking thing doesn't properly, and the padding is a bit flatter than it once was... But its still pretty comfy!

Get a Noble Real Leather. It's an investment, not just for you but your children.

The PU fabrics they use are good, thicker and stronger than cheaper chairs and their new black hybrid fabric is amazing - but you just know a quality leather hide is going to last forever if you take care of it.

So sad they don't make the Nappa leather anymore.

If you're happy to invest a bit of money I recommend the Humanscale Freedom. I bought mine a few months back from a place that reupholsters used chairs and it's fantastic. Before that I spent £80 on a generic office chair that nearly destroyed me.

Huge difference spending a few hundred on something designed for comfort. It's fantastic and I don't regret it one bit.

I'm an office worker and I spend some time on the PC out of work hours so there's 40+ hours a week sat on that chair. That's a lot of time so in my opinion it's worth spending money on.

Hopefully not breaking rules because OCUK doesn't sell office chairs, if I am just delete.

I'm 15 stone but I have now destroyed my 3rd 'Executive' chair in around 10 years.
All 3 were a well known Staples chair.
I'm now looking at spending more so I've got a chair that will last longer so looking at heavy duty/bariatric chairs.
Surely somebody on here has bought one and had experience?
Any suggestions or advice appreciated.

At 15st you do not need a bariatric chair! Also OCUK is Noblechairs for its chairs so @fiveub may have something to say. :D FREE CHAIR FOR DIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about how they compare nowadays, but I bought a Steelcase Leap V1 about 5 years ago, and bar any scuffs/marks I've made, it's still like when I first bought it. It was ~£150 which I thought was a lot at the time, I would be happy to buy it again knowing how good it is. Personally, I couldn't think to drop £400 on a chair.

I have the V2 for about 3-4 years now and I have the same exact experience with mine :).

Which basically mirrors what everyone else has said about their premium chairs in this thread. Whether it be Steelcase/Herman Miller/Humanscale etc you get absolute quality and comfort ability for the price paid.

I would highly suggest looking at places like 2ndhnd.com etc for refurbished chairs like the ones suggested in the thread.

At 15st you do not need a bariatric chair!

I have explained and I have worked with many bariatric people helping to teach staff how to use different lifting devices and slip sheets.

If a bariatric chair is good enough for them then a lightweight like me should never destroy it so it sounds reasonable it should last a lot longer don't you think?
