Hi

I'm totally noob about projector.

I'm looking for a good p/p projector and receiver for my room. It only for my personal use, so I think 720p is good enough (?). I gonna use it for about 2 years until I move to a better one (hope so), so I want something with good lamp life, and I dont have to change during this time.

About the money .. since I am totally noob, so if you think it is good for you, then it should be good for me as well :).

Thanks in advance.

I think you should go for 2nd hand if you are planning on a 720p projector, that way you wont have lost a lot of money when you sell it on. I also think you should start with LCD as well, if you go DLP you might see the rainbow effect with a cheap model.

A good place to start is always www.projectorcentral.com

You also need to know what your throw distance is (distance from projector to flat surface you are projecting onto)

Some projectors do shorter throw distances (if you only have a small room)

Thanks everyone for helping me.

The distance from the projector to the screen will be around 2-4 m (the wide of my room is 4m).

My budget is maximum of 1.5K, but I dont want a overkill for the purpose of use as I described above.

Thanks :)

Projecting onto screen or wall?

Screen to come out of the budget?

Fixed screen or pull down / pull up needed?

Ceiling mounted projector ? If so does mount have to come out of budget?

Ah .. well how expensive is the screen and mount ? I just do a quick google, and the price quite vary. I can add another 200 in to the budget for that.

But again like I said :) I am not an artist or a movie make, or someone who ... too serious about film. I just need something "standard", and not overkill :P.

You don't need to spend £1500 to get a decent 720p setup, less than half that will do you.

If you wanna go the whole hog now though, 1080p etc. here's a few worth looking at.

Sanyo PLV-Z3000
Epson 3500
Epson 2900
Sanyo PLV-Z700
Optoma HD20/HD200X

Good second hand buys but still 1080p would be

Panasonic AE3000/AE2000 If the price is right
Sanyo PLV-Z2000
Mitsubishi HC5500
LG AF115
Sony HW15

Thanks everyone again :)

I think I will go for the cheapest one Optoma HD20. May replace it later, however for the first set up I think it is good enough :).

I normally search the price using shopping.google.com, however do you guy have any suggestion about which site is best for projector/screen ?

I dont think OCuk sell any projector, so It doesnt go again the forum rule right ? If it does, then can you send me private message ?

Many thanks :)

I have a Panasonic AE2000 1080p projector.

It was on the member market here at OCUK a while back and didnt sell.
Although Ive not avertised it elsewhere since but have not used it in several months.
I can say thier is a big difference in complete image quality quality between this and my other previous purchased projector, a Panasonic AX 100 (720p) which I use a bit for gaming. Blu Ray of course showing the most benifits. The model youve ordered Im sure should keep you happy though.

Shame youve orderd as I was about to re advertise as Im only looking £900 and its only done approx 1100 hours (bulb good for 3000+) in a non smoking enviroment complete with box remote and manual.

Still Im sure you will thoroughly enjoy your first projector, the experience is hard to beat when your satisfied with the quality.
Past models from a few years back always had some drawbacks but not so much today.
