Spec me a Honeymoon

Save your money, that's way too much to spend on a holiday both of you will forget a few years down the line when married life kicks in
I've spent way more than that on holidays including our honeymooon and will never regret any of them, very few people look back on their life and wish they'd gone on less amazing holidays and seen less incredible sights!

Been to Vegas 5 times. Stayed at Ceasers, Encore , Meridian Luxury Suites (now closed) but the best hotel was the Cosmopolitan

We stayed just after it had opened in 2011 . We had a corner suite with a wraparound balcony overlooking the Belaggio fountains and the strip. Great location. Not sure what it's like now, or even if it's still the only hotel in Vegas that has balconies and doesn't force you to walk through a stinking smokey casino to get to your room, but it was the best place we ever stayed in Vegas.

I'd also recommend staying at the Grand Canyon rather than just flying over it. There are some great lodges out there that allow you to walk the rim at sunset and sunrise - an experience that really shouldn't be missed.

We stayed here - http://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/lodging/

Good luck with it all anyways.

Thank you all for your input so far!

Hawaii does not seem worth it for our budget and time so scrap that idea.

The other half is keen on Cancun (I'd rather the Caribbean) and all inclusive. This part of the holiday is simply beach, eat and drink - but there are so many good resorts all over the place to choose which makes it difficult!

For the Grand Canyon - drive and visit hoover dam then chopper in the GC? Or plane to the GC then chopper?

Keep the ideas coming!

Unless you're a big fan of seaweed I'd avoid Cancun. The whole coastline is affected and all of the beaches are plagued with mountains of the stuff washing ashore on a daily basis ( Google Sargasso Cancun)

Some parts of the Caribbean are really suffering (Global warming - rising sea temperatures)

If it's of any help. We were in Antigua last year and the beaches were totally clear.

While it may be different for him IMO it has nothing to do with the cost - i'm the same as you having spent significantly more on holidays - it's just the cost/experience ratio. It's a pretty generic city and beach holiday he's looking at. Why not take the £2.5k each and do something more exciting and memorable?

That said i'm struggling to think of something for that budget. Things like a trip to Antarctica will come out a lot more expensive, but you may be able to find 10 days in a nice luxury tent in the Kenya for some wildlife safaris, or that kind of thing.

How about Belize? Or alternatively Costa Rica. The former is supposed to have some great beaches, and the latter has some nice beaches as well. Lots of wildlife and snorkelling/scuba diving to be had as well.

Go skiing for a week then hit the Maldives.

Maldives was on the list - but the prices are out of reach.

I'll have a read but in terms of activities - we are using the 'beach' destination as a relaxing period.

I haven't heard anything about the seaweed but cheers for the heads up.

Cancun area (not actually Cancun) have a look at the excellence playa mujures

You can't fly by helicopter to the proper parts of the GC

Excellence and beloved are the ones we like in that area. Also Hyatt Zilara.

Narrowed down the Vegas hotel between Elara and Caesars - both £550~

Helicopter is no big deal - I'd rather take our time driving top down and taking in the views.

Just an update, we booked 5 nights in Vegas at the Elara. 8 nights in Beloved Playa Majures, Cancun. Flights with AA.

Grand total of £4.5k

Vegas itinerary planning now!!

Ah thought Beloved allowed kids but doesn't appear it does, still interested to know what made you chose one over the other (I've only been the Excellence)

Something else to consider is are you and your wife to be thinking of starting (or continuing!) a family in the next year or two?

If so then you need to probably avoid the Caribbean and possibly also the Maldives. The Zika virus if you catch it can cause all sorts of issues to a baby. It isn't just a concern for pregnant women either, it is an issue with people planning to conceive. The current CDC and WHO guidance is if you have contracted it you have to wait at least a year possibly two before conceiving.
