Has anyone stayed in a hotel in Bath recently? I'm looking for somewhere to spend the night for my 21st Anniversary. Currently thinking of staying in the Gainsborough but open to reasonable (it is GD after all) suggestions:

We've already got a meal booked in Bath that night but I thought I'd surprise my wife with a stayover somewhere nice. I think I'd score maximun brownie points for the Gainsborough though :)

Bath Spa. Excellent Hotel and pampered for your celebration.

Edit : Ah it is called the Gainsborough. It is THE best hotel in bath and easy walking distance to the city center.

Stayed there many times when working in bath.

The two recommendations in this thread are basically all you need, they are the best two and are very very nice. Enjoy your stay!

Whereabouts are you going for dinner?

I'll be booking the Gainsborough now as that was my first choice.

We've booked Sotto Sotto (Italian), been there before and it's great.

I only live down the road in Chippenham so I go to Bath almost every week and whilst I think I've tested out most of the pubs I've never had reason to stay there before.

Oh silly me didn't see your location, didn't realise you were from the 'Nam.

Yeh completely agree Sotto Sotto is a fantastic place, the new Gin bar is really good to go to if you haven't been yet!

From the posh side though :)

Where's the Gin Bar, Bath is not good for my liver.

IS there a posh side? I did a two and a half year tour of duty in 'nam and it's the only place in my life where I have ever been in a fight. Well, I say fight, unceremonious beating would be more accurate!

The Gin bar is just down from The Raven (pub) on Queen Street! Get a second mortgage approved before going though

You can't be talking about Pewsham surely :p

As Gandhi has said it's just on Queen's street, if you know where the Hall and Woodhouse is, it's basically on the same street. Yeh it's pricey but a nice place!

Ha, I lived in Poosham. It's like a Jeremy Kyle theme park. I'll never forget the sound of our neighbour throwing his wife down the stairs one night. Charming. Fortunately, she had the sense to walk out the door and promptly call the police!

If you're a blanket stacker or scaly then you probably deserved the beating :) I live on the M4 side near Morrisons, looked at Pewsham when we moved here 8 years ago but I didn't like the look of it and didn't fancy the daily grind through the bridge roundabout and back every day for work.

I have been to the Gin Bar, my old boss bought drinks there a couple of years ago on his leaving do and I drank several but they didn't really taste of anything. I then remember leaving the pub and then next thing I was getting picked up at Chippers train station by the wife.

As a local I can only echo this.

Wife and I are doing a food review on Sotto Sotto on the 26th.

Let me know where you post it. We've been several times and the food and service has always been excellent. I like the little touches like "Happy Anniversary" spelt in chocolate on plates and a papyrus type letter with a wax seal with both our names on wishing us a happy anniversary (last year).

Stayed at the Queensbury a few years ago for Mrs Lego's 21st, had a free upgrade to a junior suite. The room was bigger than my house at the time! Would recommend, also wouls recommend the restaurant below.
