I £100(can push it to £120) to spend on a Keyboard for my birthday. I need a comfortable gaming keyboard for long gaming hours. If it has lights make sure they are blue :D Cheers

Filco majestouch, doesn't have any blue lights but it has mechanical switches and comes in at around £110.

Had a few logitech keyboards in the past and non are as comfortable as this with cherry MX brown switches.

I'm using the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard mainly for the quality keys (after having a load of keyboards wear out on me, or feel bloody awful), nothing else feels close, it's the perfect cross between a laptop and full size keyboard with all the benefits of both. It looks amazing too.

Lights have 3 different settings and off, I just leave mine on for the bling. They are blueish white.

Get a keyboard with mechanical switches. Visit the link in my signature for real keyboard information. The majority of people on overclockers don't know **** about keyboards.

The majority of people on overclockers don't know **** about keyboards.

Bit of a sweeping statement isnt it?

How do you know what the najority of other people know?

Whilst you may be correct, if you were I'm sure you would then also realise that a persons preference in what they find comfortable in a keyboard varies quite greatly from person to person, as such whilst you may conisder mechanical keyboards superior (and general concensus of "people in the know" may agree) This does not automatically mean every person on earth prefers mechanical keyboards, and in fact in general the majority of people are in fact unable to tell the difference bewtween average and high end consumer goods (not speaking specifically about keyboards now) For example I much prefer a good IPS monitor with good colour reproduction etc, however Im also aware majority of people cannot tell/appreciate the difference between this and a TN panel costing half as much, obv imo its still worth getting the IPS, but that doesnt mean to say everybody should
Similarly with sound, I have very good hearing and can easily tell the difference between a CD and MP3, whilst not all can, as such it is worth me investing in quality soundcard and speakers, but that does not mean to say everyone should do the same

Nope. There's a handful of people on these forums that know about good keyboards. Everyone else knows **** all. This has been observed in nearly every single "spec me a keyboard thread". The majority of overclockers, when it comes to keyboards are like magpies. All they care about is sparkly **** of little value. Cheap tat. LED's or stupid LCD screens and macro buttons and whatever else. Peripherals aimed at gamers are gimmicky cheap tat.

I know that only one other person than me in this thread knows about keyboards since he recommended one with mechanical switches.

I know that. And anyone who switches to mechanical switch keyboards is usually of the opinion "where have you been all my life". I have yet to see anyone say "you know what, I prefer my rubber dome" unless they're a troll that has never used a mechanical switch keyboard.

as such whilst you may conisder mechanical keyboards superior (and general concensus of "people in the know" may agree) This does not automatically mean every person on earth prefers mechanical keyboards

Those who don't, don't know anything then.

and in fact in general the majority of people are in fact unable to tell the difference bewtween average and high end consumer goods (not speaking specifically about keyboards now)

But they can with keyboards. And this thread is about keyboards, so the little ramble you had after this point, you can blow up your ass, since you're not rambling about anything I didn't already know.

Depends what you want it for, personally the mechanical keys don't bother me too much, and I'd be more than happy to have something like the Logitech G19.

If you want something mechanical, feel free to take other people's advice :)

You do realise you just entirely proved my point? lol

When you look at what the OP is requesting, rather than recommending what you like, try recommending what the OP has asked for, by all means give advice whilst doing so, but try not to **** off the OP saying what he wants is "cheap tat" not everyone in the world has the same opinion as you (afraid to break it to you)

If he has to go for gimmicky gamer nonsense. Then he should go for a deck keyboard or Razer mech. Mechanical switches, great for long gaming hours and the stupid backlighting he needs. And it was "if" it has lights. Not a requirement.

Great keyboard I have one with browns and it is such a pleasure to type on compared to regular keyboards, I like they way it is nice and compact, like the dells ones. Very sturdy, nice bit of weight to it.

Also for gaming they are amazing, the point where they key is press has a bump which is half way down so you know you have pressed the button, this allows you to be more precise with the board and know they you've pressed the button.

Oh yeah and also has 3 blue LEDs for NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock :D

The Filco vs Razer for gaming is a no brainer, the Razer does not have full NKey Rollover which means you can't press all the buttons on your keyboard at once. I play the odd bit of trackmania, where on the razer board you wouldn't be able to press all the arrow keys at once.

Anyway keep mechanical in mind, does lack features such as media controls but you can set the binds up yourself for that, some of my num pad is used for next track etc.

Its worth trying a mechanical, you don't know what you've been missing..

Too the argument in this thread, its personal choice, many people have not been able to try a mechanical board, but gamer boards do they their use as well.

:/ i play trackmania a fair bit specially at lands and I think the most buttons I ever press is 2 maybe 3 by accident lol :D

Pressing up, down and left or right can makes the car slide / wheel spin. Most keyboards you can do it once, but then if you try go from right to left whilst still holding down the middle two keys it won't register. Try it :p

learn something new everyday hey :D xD! I only played trackmania so I got my pizza first at lans haha get a bit addicting though if ur majorly bored

most of the threads asking about keyboards i wouldn't recommend a mechanical keyboard.
doesn't mean i dont know anything about keyboards.

as most of these threads usually state the price pretty low, and u'll never get a mechanical keyboard even close to the budget.
if someone is looking to spend £20 on a keyboard, do u really think recommending a £100+ keyboard is a good idea?

also if someone is dead set on getting a keyboard with lights, then recommending one without is also not a good idea, regardless if you think its better or not, as its not what they asked for.

however, for this budget, u can have both with the Razer Blackwidow, shame its not currently available

If they were stating low prices I wouldn't recommend a mech keyboard either. Except maybe a used BS from the bay. But when you're prepared to spend £100 or more on a keyboard and someone recommends a tatty logitech gaming keyboard with rubber membrane, it's just stupid.

And the OP wasn't dead set on lights. He said "if". Not "want/need/require".

Well, I'd suggest the Razor Black Widow too, not got one but I think I'll get the cheaper non LED version as a new years present to myself :)

The filco's have good reviews etc, so if your after a mechanical keyboard then they are worth considering as a Steel series from my understanding. If you are after a LCD display, loads of keys you may or may not use and more lights than an Xmas tree then I'd say look at some of the Logitech gaming keyboards.

With your budget you can pretty much consider all of the above....
